"Red Dress Day", observed annually on May 5th, is the national Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ people (MMIWG2S) in Canada. The project used red dresses to symbolize the missing and murdered indigenous women. Lets all take the time to remember, mourn, and honor those who have been affected by this ongoing crisis.

This week (April 20-26) is Prevention of Violence Against Women’s Week. The Northern Society for Domestic Peace (NSDP) honours this week of awareness and advocacy by reminding our community that violence and abuse can escalate during times of stress.
When individuals, couples, or families are experiencing turmoil and uncertainty, it is not uncommon to see resulting substance misuse, mental health crisis, or incidents of violence. Our current political and economic climate may increase the pressure on individuals and families through financial strain, heightened tension, or decreased access to resources and supports.
Violence against women has serious impacts: physically, emotionally, spiritually, and financially; and committing acts of violence can result serious legal and social consequences.
NSDP reminds everyone in the region to watch out for your family, friends, and neighbours. Support each other when you can, check in on those who may be vulnerable, and know the warning signs of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and Domestic Violence (DV).

Today is a space for grief, remembrance, and solidarity, where families and community members come together for their loved ones. Every year, on February 14th, communities across Canada come together for the Women's Memorial March, an event dedicated to honoring the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit and gender-diverse people (MMIWG2S+). The National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls released 231 calls for justice.
