Earth Dragon TCM ~ Ancient Technology for Modern Malaise ~

Earthdragontcm.co Hi and Welcome! I am a graduate of KCCHIS (formally ACOS) and I hold a BA in Psychology.
(1)

I am a certified Qi Gong and Hatha Yoga teacher. I focus on Yang Sheng Fa, a tradition of the Chinese Sages' quest for longevity, which are recommendations for diet, lifestyle and exercise. My focus is toward the inherent wisdom of the individual. My aim is to draw on my holistic tool belt in a way that gently guides you back to your birthright of alignement. My interest in facilitating healing began with facilitating Outward Bound trips. I craved to be in nature, yet I found a deep disconnect upon returning to the city and wondered how to heal within one’s locale. Along the way I completed a BA in Psychology, because I wanted to help people. However the more I learned the more I believed in ancient healing methods. I connected with these time-tested modalities, which continues to support me and I feel greatful to support others in their journeys. I discovered breath work and Traditional Chinese Medicine. I became involved in nature-based educations for adults and children. I was a tree-planter for seven years in the far north and western Canada, so I am very aware of repetitive strain injuries and managing the body for optimal performance. I believe in heart-centred listening and the hypnagogic healing of Acupuncture, especially in these fast-paced times. I strive to remain impeccable and to offer solace in whatever state you arrive in. As a women and one currently living with PCOS: I have traversed much in my short time and it is an honour to be able to hold space and provide solutions. From anything to an aching back to a heartbroken state, digestive complaints to PTSD: Acupuncture has thousands of years of clinical efficacy for all human maladies.

Both are effective in pain relief!

One of the questions we often hear is: “What’s the difference between acupuncture and dry needling?”

Here’s a simple breakdown:

🌿 Acupuncture
Usually rooted in Chinese medicine;

- Works with the flow of energy (Qi) through meridians in the body.
- Aims to restore balance and support overall physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing
- Can target deep health issues caused by internal imbalances or emotional disturbances (and others)

💪 Musculoskeletal Acupuncture (often called Dry Needling) which is studied as part of the main types of Acupuncture;

- A recent approach, frequently practised by physiotherapists and sports therapists.
- Focuses on releasing tight muscles and trigger points.
- Used mainly for pain relief and improving mobility.

Both use fine needles, but their aims and philosophies are quite different: one takes a holistic, whole-body approach, the other is more targeted for musculoskeletal issues.

➡️ Knowing the difference helps you choose the approach that best suits your needs, always check what your Acupuncturist is trained in before booking!

August 7th until 23rd marks the beginning of Autumn!

Traditionally a time to share fresh fruit and celebrate summer's conclusion. Watermelon and peaches are eaten at this time in China. Consider local fruits found in your nothern hemisphere region. Right now in southern Vancouver Island the blackberries are ripening. This is a wonderful time to slow down and celebrate with loved ones.

The markets, fresh harvest, turning and falling leaves indicate autumn viscerally. It is time for us to honour with appropriate diet and excercise. Fall, as well as spring, are important times to strengthen muscles and lightly cleanse by subtracting congesting foods (eg.dairy, sugar, seed oils). How food is cooked is important and makes a huge difference; consider sautee, steam and light soups at this time. If you feel some residual 'heat' from summer, contact your local Traditional Chinese Medicine herbalist to help your body this autumn.

Nourishing foods for this Time :

Moistening: Sesame, honey, white fungus, lotus seeds, gelatin and lily bulbs are eaten to replenish moisture as the weather begins to dry.

Strengthening: Pumpkin, walnuts, yam, chestnuts, lamb, pork and dates are believed to strengthen the body for the colder months.
