I use guided breath work and meditation with my patients as I run the Biocharger prior to manual treatment as I have observed that it not only lessens initial pain symptoms but also improves body alignment and relaxes soft tissue restrictions before any therapy is even provided.
Combine that practice with diffused aromatherapy and brainwave entrainment music (binaural beats) and we are lighting the whole body up on a sensory level internally to stimulate positive change externally ✨
At ALIGN2PERFORM, we work from the inside out and then outside in !
Thank you Alain Filotto for posting your breathing meditation and workout at our clinic 🙏.
And thank you Biocharger NG for discussing the importance of breath work as a proactive way of managing our symptoms !
Let’s talk about Square Breathing💨
Pain.
Sometimes it is quick and short lived, other times it is chronic and interferes with life. It is estimated that around 50 million American adults live with chronic pain. This can certainly take a toll on the body, mind, and spirit.
Think about how many commercials we are shown for pain medication. And isn’t one of the first things a doctor will ask when you visit for pain is, “What do you take for it?” 💊
For some pain, medical intervention is certainly an effective and necessary option, but for others there are multiple steps that we seem to overlook.
Did you know you can breathe your pain away? 🤯
It may sound crazy, but there is truth to that statement. When we are in pain the body tenses up, preventing our diaphragm from fully extending. We breathe shallowly and into our chest which starves the body and cells of oxygen. The lack of oxygen amplifies the body’s pain signals, once again making us tense up. It’s a vicious cycle.
The next time you are in pain, try this breathing exercise.
Inhale deeply through your nose. Allow your ribs to expand outwards as your diaphragm expands and creates space in your body. Inhale for 4 seconds.
Hold that expanded breath in your body for 7 seconds.
Finally, slowly exhale the air through pursed lips for 8 seconds.
Take a moment and see how you feel. Practice several times per day. You can also use this in moments of stress, anger, or other emotions (which of course can create pain!)
