There is so much information I wish I knew before having my own daughter, that isn’t freely offered or talked about. So let’s talk about some of those things, starting with the baby blues.

The baby blues usually include mood changes, challenges managing emotions, irritability, inability to sleep, an other symptoms that can be closely related to depression. The baby blues are temporary and fade within a few weeks of baby being born, as they’re thought to be linked to the hormonal changes following delivery.

Postpartum depression on the other hand, is longer-lasting and more severe. They share many of the same symptoms, but with postpartum depression symptoms can lead to an inability to continue daily tasks, or care for yourself and baby. Overwhelming anxiety, rage, or harmful thoughts are all reasons to consider seeking help.

You are not alone in the way you’re feeling, and it’s more common than you might think. It’s okay to ask for help, to talk about what you’re struggling with, and let others see the depths of what you may be going through.

***Please reach out to a medical professional immediately if you are experiencing symptoms of postpartum psychosis, ie. hallucinations and thoughts of harming yourself or baby.***

It’s okay to not be okay. 🤍

We all know that exercise is good for you, but what about when you're expecting?

During pregnancy, exercise can have many benefits for both you, and your little love! Choosing to exercise and prioritize movement can: improve cardiac function, aide in getting restful sleep, reduce anxiety, help prepare your body for childbirth, decrease some of the negative pregnancy symptoms, and lead to a faster recovery postpartum. This doesn't have to look like you spending every day in the gym, but even committing to going on an outdoor walk a few times a week, and doing some hip or pelvic floor exercises.

If you were active prior to pregnancy, it is often encouraged that you continue your current routine, with some modifications. Certain activities and movements are not recommended during pregnancy, including direct core exercises, contact sports, or high intensity workouts. You may notice as you get further along, you naturally modify your routine based on your body's comfort and ability levels shifting.

As a doula, as well as pre & postnatal personal trainer, I'd love to help you experience a healthy pregnancy, birth, and postpartum!

In the first months after a baby is born, it seems they have endless appointments, "check-ins" and visitors. On the contrary, a new mom gets one, often far too brief appointment that doesn't even begin to cover where they're really at.

A new momma needs time to heal and bond with their baby, but life doesn't stop and the lists keep growing. Check in and find even simple ways to help the new momma in your life!

I hope the first few days of the new year have been good to you! ✨

Do you have a new little love joining you this year? Due in April (or sooner)? A little overwhelmed by all the info out there, yet seemingly lack thereof? Unsure of the questions to ask or ways to prepare?

No matter what your birth plan is- or if you have zero plans at all, I’d love to walk with you on this journey! Build your confidence, feel knowledgable and empowered, and trust what your body is capable of.

There’s no shortage of advice and opinions being offered to new parents, solicited or not. Not to mention the internet’s every attempt to influence any decision we make.

The best piece of advice I got as a new mom that wasn’t about philosophy, methods, or judgement was; when nothing else seems to work, expose them to the elements. For us, this meant warm water or a walk outside. Two years later, still works every time.

What worked for your little love?

My name is Chyanna and I am a young momma to one beautiful little girl! A bit about why I chose to be a doula: Ever since I was able, I have been in childcare, eventually becoming an Early Childhood Educator. I love getting to be a part of the most formative years in a child's life, watching them learn and grow with what feels like every move. From the moment they're born, kids are learning and forming who they are. I have also come to love Montessori and gentle/positive approaches to interacting with children. Having my own child has even further developed my interactions with kiddos and the loving, supportive impact I want to make.

When my daughter was born, her birth for me was almost euphoric, despite all the challenges that birth itself can carry and not knowing the least bit of what to expect. This for me was what started my journey to becoming a doula. I've always loved the idea of being a doula, as well as the early years of childhood. Once I had gone through my own birth, I found a new love for going back to the very beginning- a child’s journey to entering the world. I fell in love with what the body is capable of and the sacredness of birth, even though that’s widely missed in our current medical system. The more I learn, I gain a deeper love and admiration for the beauty, the strength, and the challenge all intertwined with birth & postpartum.

Now here I am, committed to helping others have the best experience possible for them and their baby. I’d love for you to feel prepared and abandon your fears when bringing your little love into the world, as well as navigating what life looks like postpartum.

I'd love to work together, message me for more info!

“Just as a woman’s heart
knows how and when to pump,
her lungs to inhale,
and her hand to pull back from fire,
so she knows when
and how to give birth.”
