For those feeling uneasy at the state of things amongst our people across nations, a helpful exercise I find is a visualization in meditation.

Simply sit quietly in a place you won't be disturbed, close your eyes, and begin to breathe. After you've become more comfortable breathing, begin to imagine those others who might be meditating/praying with you at this time, for there is always someone in every moment of the day that is doing this with you. Imagine together, that place which is in pain, and imagine the love and light, peace, and power of that which you believe in spiritually, going to that place. Try to see that energy touching those who would use violence against one another, helping them to become more aware of the unity of things, so that they might begin to question how they consciously relate to the others around them. Attempt to imagine forgiveness between aggressor and victim, and the healing of trauma. Imagine that place becoming so filled with love that the need for violence is utterly forgotten. I recommend attempting this for 20 minutes each day, it will make a difference. There is no specific list of things that you must see when you are attempting to do this either, as long as you continue to attempt to see and feel this theme with those areas you're worried about, it will have a positive effect over time, on you, as well as the world.

If your feelings of discomfort remain by the end of the 20 minute attempt, don't be discouraged, sometimes it takes multiple attempts before feeling something, what's more important is the continued attempting that will bring results. You got this!

For those who experience anxiety over elections, this is a simple technique that sometimes helps me:

Sit down in a space you know you won't be disturbed, put your phone on silent, and close your eyes. Do your best to just sit there and get comfortable with breathing for a minute, slowly in... slowly out. Maybe even take that deep breath right now. As you continue to have an awareness of your breathing, when you're ready, try to visualize those political candidates which you agree with and disagree with, sitting with you in a circle Slowly imagine extending your hands and taking theirs, and them taking yours, they smile and are humouring the exercise with you. Let it be whichever leaders you want, but it's important that one of the ones who takes your hand is the candidate your disagree with the most, and you imagine that they too are holding the hand of the candidate you agree with the most. Then, for a few minutes, just concentrate on your breathing, and attempt to feel goodness in the group, attempt to feel and see forgiveness in the group, attempt to feel support in the group. For those who have spiritual beliefs, imagine those things with you, be it guardians, the creator, the Earth - try to see whatever that is with the group as well.

After you've tried to see these things in your mind for a few minutes, then imagine that you've had a particularly difficult day, and the candidate who you disagree with the most offers a sign of affection to you that you resonate with, perhaps it's a hug or they're rubbing your back. Imagine that they are your parent or grandparent, someone who genuinely cares for you while it's happening. Then after you've done that and you're ready, see that candidate sharing a similar loving exchange with the candidate you agree with - now they are brothers/sisters giving each other a hug and they care about each other. Breathe slowly and don't worry about seeing the images clearly at first, just do your best and attempt to be comfortable throughout.

I find after doing this for 10-15 minutes, some tension is often released and I feel a little better afterwards. Just something to try!

For those concerned about Ukraine, a group I follow does two daily meditations for the healing of our Earth (6:30 AM and 5 PM MST),
and a special one coming up for Ukraine on Saturday Feb 26th at 7 AM (MST).

"For those interested in linking up with us for the meditation from their own location, the exact time is less important than the intention to join in spirit. Though factors of space and time come into play for we denizens of the relative world, metaphysically we inhabit a non-local universe, and our intentions are ultimately of a metaphysical nature."

May our hearts join together, for peace on our planet.

Reviewing the Netflix series "Headspace Guide to Meditation"

Episode: 8 How to Achieve Your Limitless Potential

This episode concludes the series and attempts to offer a meditation technique with the knowledge that all the previous meditation techniques have prepared us for this very old 'mindfulness' meditation.

I will say though, that it's not very clear how the previous techniques have all prepared us for this one, besides the repetition of entering and exiting mediation which remained the same in every other technique. With this technique, we essentially close our eyes and allow all thoughts to come and go, on occasion reminding ourselves of how our body feels to breath in and out, and then to go back to allowing our mind to wander just as it wants to, and supposedly this is meant to help unlock our inner potential, aids in creativity if done repeatedly over a long time span, as well as helping us to bring peace of mind into even chaotic situations in our life.

I did feel calm at the end and more collected, but even the speaker said that this is something that we need to practice over time in order to see clear results, such as enhanced creativity and our unlocked potential.

Overall I thought the series was awesome and I recommend it to anyone interested in starting their meditation practice, or strengthening the one they're already doing.

Let me know in the comments if there was a particular technique that resonated with you, or which one you found the most difficult! As always, meditation is strengthened as we practice, Reiki is the same way, so don't give up if a meditation ever feels discouraging. Meditation will be easy some days, and harder on others, the real power comes from repeated attempts, regardless of the outcome.

Reviewing the Netflix series "Headspace Guide to Meditation"

Episode 7: How to Deal with Anger

This episode deals mainly with annoyance and anger, and how we can transform those feelings within, in meditation and in our waking life. I thought the technique in this episode was effective and definitely applicable, you basically imagine someone you're feeling annoyed or angry with, and by imagining their pain and struggle, and then taking away that pain from them, while giving them the joy that we feel in our life, we can actually bring joy into ourselves. I will say that it took awhile for me to find the right person in my mind that it worked well with, I initially chose someone I thought I might be annoyed with, but the feelings were vague and I couldn't pinpoint them, the meditation felt like it wasn't going anywhere as I imagined that person, but when I began to scan my mind and switch between people, I realized it worked really well with someone else and I realized that perhaps I was holding more annoyance and frustration towards that person than I thought, the result was a release of those feelings and I ended up feeling actually pretty good after.

Overall the episode was pretty similar to 5, which isn't a bad thing, it again strengthens the process of entering and exiting meditation, and the technique is something we can do even in our waking life, like when someone cuts us off in traffic or takes our parking space. It's easily something we could all benefit from practicing so I recommend this one.

Let me know in the comments what you thought of this technique!

Reviewing the Netflix series "Headspace Guide to Meditation"

Episode 6: How to Deal with Pain

Today's episode focused on discomfort and pain, and how when we feel pain, and also feel stress, anger, and resistance to pain, that these are actually two different things which operate independently in our brains. The meditation technique in this episode is intended to help relax that stress-response and resistance that we often feel when we are experiencing any type of chronic discomfort, that "Why me? Why am I experiencing this pain? Please make it stop" reaction which contributes to our pain, and is meant to help us learn to change our relationship with our pain, while learning to sit with it and listen to it as best we can.

Unfortunately I found this one to be a bit trickier to apply in practice, since I don't actually have any chronic discomfort issues at the moment, however the meditation did bring up areas in the body that weren't perfectly at ease or in balance for me, and by the end of the meditation I did feel like I was able to inspect and feel those areas of discomfort to a degree that I wasn't able to before, nor was I even aware of before the meditation.

If anyone experiences chronic discomfort or pain, I'd love to hear your input in the comments and whether or not this meditation helpful!

Reviewing the Netflix series "Headspace Guide to Meditation"

Episode 5: How to be Kind

Struggling with someone in your life? Aware of blockages in yourself when talking to a family member or friend? This episode is for you.

I was pleased to find that the universe must have been listening when I wrote about yesterday's meditation because the technique used in today's episode actually diverted a bit into something different than the previous episodes. It was a really effective technique utilizing a bit of visualization to see ourselves, our loved ones, and especially those we are having difficulties with, in a state of joy and peace. The intention with this one is that by learning to let go of our judgements and difficulties with those around us, and instead imagining them in a state of bliss, that we are actually creating a space and state of mind where we ourselves can experience happiness. I actually noticed a distinctive change in my energy after doing this one.

The theme in this episode revolved around how when we make judgements on ourselves throughout our day, and in turn judge others, we create a scenario where we are less happy and have a poorer self-image. As with the previous episodes, the speaker's thoughts were reassuring, encouraging, and he does an awesome job guiding you through the chosen technique, while reminding us that all of these feelings and patterns are normal, that it's okay, and that through practicing meditation we can learn to let go of resentment. I'll definitely be practicing this one again.

Reviewing the Netflix series "Headspace Guide to Meditation"

Episode 4: How to Deal With Stress

This episode begins with a simple but intriguing personal experience that the speaker, Andy, shares with us about his time at a monastery and a situation involving ice cream. It puts into perspective so easily about how our own thinking is often the source of so much stress in our lives, and how we can begin to change that perspective.

The meditation technique he goes over is very similar to Episode 1 and 3, except in this one, when we find our mind lost in thought, we have to note what it is that distracted us, like for example, we find ourselves distracted by feelings of jealousy or frustration that we might be having at this time, and then we have to note to ourselves, "I'm thinking about _____ and I feel frustration" etc. - and then once that is acknowledged, we think to ourselves "This is just my thinking" and we then move ourselves back to our meditation, to our breathing. The thing I like about this technique is that it's something we can do in our conscious thinking throughout our day even when we aren't meditating, the meditation is simply helping us to get into that rhythm of acknowledging and letting go into our breathing. I found myself trying this throughout my day today and I've actually found it helpful in letting go and allowing myself just the breathe when negative feelings arise.

Overall I'm pretty happy with this series and the more I watch, the more confident I am in recommending this series to others. The episodes are nice and short and get straight to the point. So far 3 out of the 4 episodes have had extremely similar techniques, so I'm hoping they diversify a little in the coming episodes, but at the same time I understand that repetition is what improves the practice, and each episode has built upon the other in establishing a set process of entering and leaving meditation.

Check it out and you'll see watching this is worth it if you want to release negative energy from your life.
