One of the most meaningful parts of family medicine is building long-term relationships and supporting patients through every stage of life. 🩺
Thank you, Dr. Stefanek, for sharing what you love most about working with your patients and for the lasting impact you continue to make.

Q: What do you love most about working with your patients?

A: “Many things! But one fun thing is that some have been with me for over 20 years. I have seen kids grow into adults and go on to have their own families. I’ve had patients go into medicine because they see the important work we do and are inspired by that.”

During Alberta Rural Health Week, May 25 to 29, we celebrate the providers and teams who support patients, build strong community connections, and help shape the future of rural healthcare.

Thank you to all those making a difference in rural communities across the province.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a timely reminder that supporting mental
well-being is essential in both our personal and professional lives. It’s an opportunity to reduce stigma, encourage open conversations and prioritize self-care while also checking in on colleagues, friends and loved ones.

By fostering understanding and compassion, we can help create environments where everyone feels supported and empowered to seek help when they need it. 💚

If you or someone you know needs support, consider talking to your healthcare provider about available mental health resources and services.

Today, on World Family Doctor Day, we are celebrating the incredible impact family physicians have on the health and well-being of our communities. 🩺

Thank you, Dr. Sheik for encouraging healthier lifestyles and helping patients build habits that support their physical and mental well-being at every stage of life.

Q: What’s one simple change people can make to improve their overall health?

A: Increase exercise/physical activity. Physical activity not only helps maintain a healthy weight, reducing the risk of diabetes and other cardiovascular diseases, but also improves mental health and mobility as we age.

What if the simplest way to reduce isolation is something as ordinary as sharing a meal?

In this episode of Do Local Good, Kathryn Way from Alberta Parenting for the Future Association about how food is bringing people together across the Tri-region.

They explore the impact of the “Stir It Up” cultural cooking program, where youth build confidence, learn life skills, and connect across cultures in a shared kitchen space. From baking together to conversations grounded in the Seven Sacred Teachings and Indigenous ways of knowing, the program shows how belonging can grow in everyday moments.
