As autumn deepens and golden leaves drift softly to the earth, many of us sense that subtle change in the world around us—the thinning of the veils. The space between the seen and unseen becomes especially delicate, inviting us to pause, listen, and honour the profound connection between the physical and spiritual realms.
Samhain, rooted in ancient Celtic tradition, has long been celebrated as a sacred turning point in the wheel of the year. Marking the end of the harvest and the beginning of the darker half, it is believed that, during this liminal time, the boundaries between our world and the world of spirits are at their most fragile. This offers a gentle invitation to commune with ancestors, pay tribute to those who have passed, and reflect on the natural cycles of death and renewal woven through all of life.
Many traditional practices—such as lighting candles to guide spirits home, creating altars with cherished mementos, and sharing stories by the warmth of a hearth—honour both memory and mystery. Nature itself encourages us to slow down, wrap ourselves in comfort, and embrace the introspective energies that Samhain brings. Many rituals have carried forth to today that have their roots in Samhain. In fact, turnips used to be carved to ward off spirits and an Irish cake was baked with objects inside such as a coin or a ring to foretell one’s future. In honour of our ancestors and our beloved dead, large bonfires were lit for three days and people wore disguises to ward off mischief from the wandering spirits.

I know this sounds wild, but did anybody see the green flashing light quite large stationary in the sky to the left of the chief in the last five minutes now it’s disappeared. It was blinking for a good two minutes and then I went to get the camera and then it was gone.

As we come to the end of October, we enter the sacred night of Samhain. It’s a time to honour our ancestors, release our troubles and plant deep seeds of intention for the coming months.
So light your candles and speak gratitude to those who have come before us. Let the fire cleanse, the wind carry, the earth root and the water renew 🕯️🍂

Mythology around the life/death/rebirth cycle is rich, told beautifully in the story of Persephone and the underworld. It’s rich with symbolism and metaphor. Persephone must live underground half of the year; the other half above ground. This represents the cycle of life, death, and rebirth; as well as the changing seasons - her descent into the underworld causes winter and her return above brings spring. She is also a metaphor for growth, transformation and the duality of light/dark.
Similarly, Halloween/All Soul’s/Saint’s Day is rooted in the changing of the seasons from summer to winter. It’s where the plant kingdom goes into dormancy (a little death) and energy travels from the aerial parts of a plant to the roots, moving underground to rest and hibernate. This metaphor can also translate to how we go within during the winter to rest and hibernate, a place where we can deepen introspection while offering an opportunity to do internal work on ourselves.
Aromatic medicine is a great support on all levels of self whether it is mental, emotional, physical or spiritual. Palo Santo (“holy wood”) has been used as an incense in South America for centuries to cleanse the mind, support the emotions, protect the physical, and to empower the spiritual self. Once upon a time, in the early 90’s, I fell in love with Essential Oils and Crystals.
Soon after, I met my twin flame, soul sister, teacher and mentor Jade Shutes, and was inspired to become a certified aromatherapist and apprentice to her. Many NAHA conferences and 20 years later, that love for essential oils has blossomed into wildcrafting, artisan distillation, infusing, growing and studying medicinal plants with Rosemary Gladstar, whom I feel is the Matriarch of Herbalism.
The creation of the Elemental Synergies, Water, Air, Earth and Fire (the foundational four aromas of FNTN) was in essence an ode to Mother Earth, Pachamama, and was a pivotal point in my life, waking me up and sparking my passion and love for Nature, Crystal Healing and Herbalism, Energy Work and Shamanism. 20 years later my product line has grown to include 5 more spiritually inspired synergies that may be used as an Aromatic Journey to perceptually shift around the Medicinal Wheel. All Synergies are available in spritzer and roll-on.
In addition to my organic essential oil synergies, my unique product line includes a number of hand crafted hydrosols that I lovingly distil in one of my two copper stills, as well as three herbal infusions of my crafting; Calendula, Wild Rose and St. John’s Wort. These infusions are the base for my three healing salves, Calendula Wound Balm, Fire Synergy Muscle Rub and Wild Rose Salve.
All of my products are lovingly charged with a semi precious stone/crystal, chosen specifically for the product in which they are placed and infused with a blessing, which sets the intention for the highest and best to support and send healing to its recipient.
My love for crystal healing, the four elements and my medicine bundle, inspired me to create 11+ unique Crystal Altars, using semi precious stones. The centre stone sets the intention for the altar while the four stones hold each corner. Each Altar is uniquely named and comes with a silk pouch and a mantra card for personal healing work. Much loved is the Chakra Altar, a rainbow row of stones representing the 7 Chakras, rightly named, Love is All.
As we come full circle with my story, I feel it is important to mention that I am fueled by a passion to live in a world free from oppression and patriarchal attitudes that have for centuries held all beings back from their highest healed state. I share my voice in a number of ways as an anti violence worker and medicine person. I hold space with an open heart. I am Reiki attuned, herbal infused, and trauma informed. I am honored to be a keeper of medicine songs, facilitator of ceremony and healing circles. I offer custom consultations and I welcome product development opportunities.
