A question we get asked a lot is "What is the difference between Massage Therapy and Osteopathy"

'Both massage therapy and osteopathy are forms of manual therapy that focus on improving the overall well-being of individuals. Massage therapy involves the manipulation of soft tissues to alleviate muscle tension, reduce stress, and promote relaxation.

On the other hand, osteopathy is a holistic approach that aims to restore the body's balance and function by manipulating the musculoskeletal system. Both modalities can help improve circulation, reduce pain, and enhance the body's natural healing process.

Whether you choose massage therapy or osteopathy, both can be beneficial in promoting physical and mental wellness.'

As some of you may have heard, Registered Massage Therapists will be be going back to work in mid-May under enhanced protocols. We are waiting to hear from the College of Massage Therapist of BC what these enhanced protocols entail, and the exact dates of our return to work.

I imagine we will be back to work by the last week of May. If you wish to book now, I've opened up my online booking. Be aware that there will be some changes to how we operate.

Stay safe and see you soon.

In light of the continuously unfolding developments on the Covid-19 virus, starting today (tuesday) I will cease treatments to do my part in flattening the curve. I'm committed to the health, safety and well-being of my patients, families and community.

Please know that I will be treating again as soon as it is safe to do so and I will continue to update you on the length of the closure as the situation unfolds. My decision will be based on the updates and the guidance of the Public Health Agency of Canada and our local Public Health Officer.

Although face to face interactions are not possible at this time, I welcome you to reach out with any questions or concerns. Emails will be checked regularly during this time. I will be reaching out to patients to reschedule any appointments in the upcoming weeks.

Thank you for your support and understanding. Stay informed and healthy and I look forward to seeing everyone soon.

I had the pleasure of meeting the leading specialist in climbing related injuries Dr Volker Schรถffel this summer at the Canadian Climbing Medicine Symposium. He recently collaberated with Diki Korb and Patrick Matros, arguably two of the top climbing coaches in the world to create this useful guide to preventative training. It's focused for climbers however I think it would be helpful for all athletes. Have a look!

About

Using an evidence-based and scientific approach, Darra works with the individual to determine what the best treatment needs are. He is trained in Sports/ Deep tissue massage, Myofascial Release, Trigger Point release, Neuromuscular Techniques and Joint Play. He believes strongly in sharing his observations with clients so that they learn more about their bodies and are active participants in the healing process.

Since his youth he has been avidly involved in outdoor sports, including mountain biking, climbing, mountaineering, and XC running. Having sustained many injuries through these activities, he began to understand the challenges of pain and decreased functionality, and became interested in therapeutic techniques. He first learned about the benefits of massage therapy while completing a certificate in Injury Management and Fitness in Sport from University College Dublin (UCD). He then used this knowledge over many years in a professional capacity as Wilderness / Climbing Guide and Outdoor Education Teacher, before pursuing further training to become an RMT.

Darra received his RMT diploma from Langara College in Vancouver and RMT license from the College of Massage therapist of British Columbia.

In his free time Darra can be found climbing, mountain biking or ski touring around the Sea to Sky area with his girlfriend. He practices yoga and meditation and incorporates mindfulness techniques into his treatment
