अथ योगानुशासनम्
atha yoga-anuśāsanam
In this present moment, yoga begins.

The first verse of the Yoga Sūtras: atha yoga-anuśāsanam — “Now, the teachings of yoga.”

Atha means here, now, in this very moment.

Anuśāsanam points to discipline, guidance, and tradition passed down.

It’s a reminder that yoga doesn’t live in the past or future. It begins where you are, right now—held by tradition, lived in the present moment.

Start here, now. Show up as you are.

Join our yoga classes.
Mysore-style — assisted, self-led classes where you breathe and move at your own pace — and guided classes, where we breathe and move together while listening to the Sanskrit name of the asana, the count, and the gaze. This is called Tristhana.

Come learn yoga in a studio that honours lineage and tradition while respecting the unique nature of your body and mind.

Yoga begins with listening 🤍

10 years apart.
A decade of friendship, practice, and walking through motherhood together — now with two kiddos each. These videos show the same practice and same assist, 10 years in between, and reflect the resiliency, softness, and continuity of practice through all the ebbs and flows of life.

Grateful for the shared roots in lineage, the ongoing commitment, and the gentleness that has grown with time.

Thanks for visiting our little studio in Squamish ❤️

The most fundamental aspect of yoga practice is how it lives off the mat. We can’t look away. We shine light on marginalized voices.

Our practice is rooted in lineage and tradition — and yoga is political.

If you’re ever in doubt, return to the Yamas and Niyamas—there, you’ll find guidance on how to act and what to do.

We stand with the oppressed—this is (non-harming).

We speak truth with clarity and courage—this is (truthfulness) and (inner fire). Sometimes, we must unlearn, question our assumptions, and commit to research in order to see clearly.

We do not steal what isn’t ours— (non-stealing) and (non-possessiveness)—nor do we support systems built on injustice. We stand with oppressed communities and marginalized voices.

We stay grounded in self-discipline and commitment—

We purify our thoughts and actions— (cleanliness), which includes being pragmatic, doing the work of unlearning, and making space for new understanding.

We cultivate gratitude and contentment— .

We reflect on our role and take responsibility— (self-study).
We surrender to something greater than ourselves—

Yoga is community care, personal responsibility, and collective liberation.
It is not neutrality.

It is justice, compassion, and love in action.

We are entering summer, the season of fire.
Flowers bloom to offer their fruit.
The Earth is abundant-
giving with quiet generosity.
There is enough to share.

Reciprocity is the gift.
Abundance is a collective dance-
to give, receive, and give thanks.

Teens are welcome!

We welcome every body at the studio.
Kids under 12 can join our special summer program, and teens 13+ are invited to attend our regular classes.

This summer, we encourage teens to begin a yoga practice—offering tools for self-awareness, community care, resilience, and the gentle discipline that grows through consistency.

Our 8:30 am classes are a great way to start the day feeling grounded and present.
We’d love to see more teens in the room.

Feel free to reach out if you’d like to learn more ❤️ Share with those with teens! Friends are welcome and get a special discount ♥️

Check RESOURCES on our website for a new blog post. If a beginner in the practice of yoga arrives with a clear intention and a commitment to show up daily, their practice immediately becomes magical, deep, sincere, and goes a long way. It is about showing up. You have to be there. It’s hard to begin, it’s hard to roll out the mat each day. But we do it, and we’re not attached to what comes of it. Or maybe we are — but just as attached to our commitment, and to each day of practice — the good days and the bad, if we want to be binary and linear — and yet, we never regret having sat, moved, and breathed on the mat.

After our Kids’ Yoga and Mindfulness session this afternoon, we talked about how energy transforms into matter—how our thoughts, which are energy, can create real changes in our bodies. Just like light can change the color of turmeric-dyed paper, our thoughts can shift how we feel inside.
