Welcome our new student, Ainslie, for the next 12 weeks! .
I couldn’t be more thrilled to be joining the team at St. Jacobs Midwives for my placement. Having been born and raised in the Waterloo region I am so happy to be back to develop my skills in this amazing community.

Prior to starting the Midwifery Education Program I completed a Bachelor of Sciences in Life Sciences at McMaster, where I focused on science communication and population health. This sparked my passion for making health information and services accessible and available for all.

Outside of studying midwifery I love to read, go backpacking, and watching nature documentaries.

While estimates range, roughly half of pregnancies continue past 40 weeks. So what happens then?

At 41 weeks, providers often offer a biophysical profile including:

✅ an ultrasound checking fetal movement and amniotic fluid levels, and

✅ a non-stress test consisting of fetal monitoring, assessing the fetal heart rate and it’s response to fetal
movement and/or contractions

The results from these tests can help inform potential next steps, from continuing to wait for labor to start on its own, to inducing, to electing for cesarean birth.

💬 Have you ever had a pregnancy go past 40 weeks? Tell us about your experience in the comments!

Postpartum pain is common no matter HOW you give birth 😫⁣
⁣
✅ The good news is that it’s usually manageable with OTC pain relievers like ibuprofen and Tylenol⁣
⁣
✅ And non-pharmaceutical options like heat and ice⁣
⁣
Yes, even for C-section mamas!⁣
⁣
👆 Go ahead and save this post for reference in those early postpartum days!!⁣
⁣
❓ Veteran mamas, what worked best to relieve your postpartum pain??
