The NLMA is working on a program to integrate NLPDP authorization request forms with EMRs, which will help enhance efficiency and free up valuable time for doctors.

“As a family physician, I see first-hand the impact administrative burden can have on a medical practice. This integration will help improve physician efficiency in filling out the forms required for patient coverage under the provincial drug plan. By lessening unnecessary paperwork and administrative tasks, physicians can work toward avoiding burnout and can get back to the purpose of medical practice – caring for patients.”
– Dr. David Metcalfe, family physician & NLMA Board Member

Funding for this initiative was made possible by the Canadian Medical Association, MD Financial Management Inc. and Scotiabank as part of the Health Care Unburdened Grant program.

On National Physicians’ Day, we want to express our sincere gratitude to you, the physicians of Newfoundland and Labrador, for your unwavering commitment to patient care, compassion, and excellence in medicine.

As we celebrate your vital role, we also recognize the importance of your own health and well-being. Your resilience is remarkable — but balance and well-being are essential, too.

Together with our partners at the Department of Health and Community Services (DHCS), Memorial University Faculty of Medicine, Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services (NLHS), and the Family Practice Networks (FPNs) we are pleased to announce the Physician Health Collaborative (PHC), a leadership-driven initiative designed to help address the challenges physicians face across our province.

To the physicians of our province: thank you for being the heart of health care and for all that you do.

We honor you today and every day.

Each year, physicians in Canada spend 18.5 million hours on unnecessary administrative tasks. We need to do better. That’s why we’re thrilled to receive funding from , and as part of the Health Care Unburdened Grant program to help alleviate physicians’ administrative burden through Improving efficiency by integrating authorization request forms with the provincial electronic medical record. This project will lift some of that administrative pressure faced by physicians each day, and allow them to reclaim lost time with patients.
