✨WHEN TO SEE A CHIROPRACTOR✨

A lot of people ask me,
“how do I know if I need a chiropractor?”

1. If you’re experiencing muscle, joint, or nerve pain — that’s your first sign to see a chiropractor. As experts in neuromusculoskeletal disorders, we’re a great option to get on the road to recovery. A good chiropractor will examine you and be able to diagnose what is going on and recommend the next steps in terms of treatment.

2. Which leads us to imaging — some conditions need imaging to be properly diagnosed, and a huge pro to seeing a chiropractor is that they can send you for that imaging. Chiropractors are actually trained to take x-rays and read them, identifying arthritic conditions, compression fractures, and more. Whether you had a motor vehicle accident and are presenting with neck pain or you have a longstanding history of pain in your knees that is getting worse, your chiropractor will determine if imaging is warranted and send you on your way. Then, they have access to those results and can explain to you exactly what is going on.

3. Maybe you’ve already tried treatment. As a chiropractor, I am a huge supporter and referral source for massage therapy, as I think the two therapies go hand in hand to treat MSK conditions. But when massage therapy on the muscles of the body helps but doesn’t take all the pain away, it may be time to let a chiropractor assess the joints and see if restriction or dysfunction in those is causing your problems. Let your practitioners work together to help you best!

4. Finally, if you’re sick of trying to take the edge off the pain with medication that doesn’t work or causes you side effects, you may want to try conservative treatment. I am a FIRM believer in allopathic medicine and the prescriptions that come along with it. HOWEVER, if pain can be stopped at the source instead of covering it up with an ibuprofen, I think that is worth a shot. This is not to say chiropractic will get rid of any need for pharmaceuticals, but I do believe it is worth a shot to get natural relief from pain.

Now you know more about chiropractic care.

So what are you waiting for? 😊

As an evidence-based chiro, Kristin delves beyond just adjusting her patients.

Appointments begin with a health history and explore your current issues, including activity level, sleeping habits, and any additional pertinent information regarding your health and wellness.

From there, she wants to see your movement. Depending on when and where you’re feeling the pain Kristin will determine what may not be moving optimally, and then come up with a plan on how to fix it.

Sometimes an x-ray may be needed before treating, or if you are not responding as expected to treatment. Luckily, chiropractors can order imaging for you!

With treatment consisting of manual therapies — including soft tissue work and adjustments — and exercise prescription, Kristin’s goal is to optimize mobility, reduce pain, and prevent injury.

Call or book online to secure your appointment with Kristen!

✨WHERE I’VE BEEN ✨

The last few months have been a whirlwind of personal loss, holiday enjoyment, continued education, and being booked and busy.

I am still practicing at Momentum Health 2 days a week, Monday 2-7 and Friday 9-1. These hours are flexible, so if you cannot find a time that works for you or you have an urgent issue, please reach out to see if I can accommodate. I do have another job, where I work exclusively with veterans and RCMP so I am unable to treat the general public during those hours.

I treat a wide variety of conditions, and do more than just adjust. In fact, there are some patients who don’t get adjusted at all. Based on your health conditions, severity of pain, and personal preference, we may reach into our tool belt further for others means of treatment past a snap, crackle, pop.

If you have been struggling with pain or decreased physical function, this is your sign to book your appointment today! Booking link in bio ☺️

One reason your back pain isn’t going away?

It could be spondylolisthesis — when one vertebra edges forward over the one below it.

This usually happens because of a defect in a small part of the bone called the pars interarticularis. That defect can develop from:

Naturally thinner bones 🦴

Repetitive activities that overextend the spine (think certain sports or movements)

Most cases show up in the low back just above the tailbone. Sometimes, people don’t even know they have it until an X-ray finds it by accident. But when symptoms do show up, they can include:

Lower back pain

Muscle spasms and stiffness

Trouble standing or walking

Tingling, numbness, or weakness in the legs (in more severe cases)

We grade it based on how far the vertebra has slipped forward. Once it’s over 50%, pain and dysfunction are more likely — and higher grades can press on nerve roots, causing even more symptoms.

✅ Treatment:

In acute cases, a back brace might help

Most cases respond best to core and lower back strengthening to support your spine and keep you active

Surgery (like spinal fusion) is a last resort if nothing else works

💡 If you’ve been dealing with stubborn back pain, stiffness, or nerve symptoms, it’s worth getting checked.

Why Slowing Down the “Lowering” Part of an Exercise Can Make a Huge Difference 🔽💥

Ever been told to slow things down during a workout — especially when lowering a weight — and wondered why?

Here’s the deal 👇

Every movement has two main parts:

Concentric = lifting the weight (like pushing up in a push-up)

Eccentric = lowering the weight (like lowering into a squat)

And they actually do different things for your body!

🔹 For building muscle, slowing down the lowering phase puts more controlled tension on your muscles. That creates more stimulus, which leads to better results over time — instead of just bouncing through the movement.

🔹 For getting stronger, it’s a little different. You might move more quickly when lifting heavy, but during training, slowing things down helps improve your form. That means fewer bad habits (like bouncing a bar off your chest or wobbling in a squat) and more consistent progress.

🔹 For injury rehab, focusing on just the lowering part of a movement — and doing it slowly — can help reduce pain. It gives your body a way to ease back into the movement safely and with control.

Here’s something cool: your muscles can actually handle more weight during the lowering phase than the lifting one. That’s why slow eccentrics are often used in both rehab and performance training — they’re safe, powerful, and effective.

So next time you’re moving, don’t rush the lowering part. It’s not just about getting through the reps — it’s about getting the most out of them 💪

✨NEW CLINIC UPDATES✨

Part of my move to Momentum has been because I want to take a more active role in working with patients on their health and movement without feeling rushed.

With this move, I have decided to increase my treatment time to allow this change in practice. This allows us to work on strength and mobility within the appointment.

With a treatment taking more time and being more comprehensive, prices will increase to reflect these efforts and expertise being put into a treatment. This price is in accordance with the NLCA’s recommended fee schedule.
