Grief may be highlighted today for many … we may take time to remember while also taking care of ourselves and supporting loved ones.

Reminisce and tell your stories, and take time to self soothe if today is painful for you

There are lots of big feelings to be had as we reflect on the impacts of colonialism and racism that led to the kidnapping of Indigenous children all around Canada, and sending them to residential schools. Not only were they stolen from their families, but they were abused, tortured, killed, and their bodies hidden.

We are sending our children clad in orange shirts for and to honour National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It is even more important to have the hard and uncomfortable conversations that precede these movements.

Check out this info graphic by the Métis Nation of British Columbia. It can be a helpful tool to start the conversation with our littles as they too will have big feelings.

Big feelings are not bad feelings - right now, empathy is our most valuable skill to help healing ❤️‍🩹

Thoughts ➡️Feelings➡️ Behaviours

But there is also a lot in between, and it can be helpful to work with a therapist to sort out some of the not-so-obvious’ thoughts, feelings and behaviours we experience.

Change happens in the present moment. Which is hopeful and beautiful and compassionate because that means, when we mess up or stray away or detour from our internal guideposts and resolutions, we get a new chance for do-overs...making repairs, learning from mistakes and taking responsibility for our lives.
