WORLD PANCREATIC CANCER DAY. NOVEMBER 17, 2022. Wearing purple today in honour of our beloved Dr. Bense to help raise awareness, education, support and research about this devastating disease.

We lost our founder, friend, doctor, father, visionary Dr. Michael H. Bense to pancreatic cancer in December 2017. Dr. Bense: an exceptional ophthalmologist, a brilliant mind, and a very caring and kind man. We miss his big smile, his hugs, and pat on the shoulder just when you needed it. Dr. B lived life to the fullest and cared deeply about his family and his work. He is missed every day. We are eternally grateful to have known this beautiful soul and we carry on his legacy with pride and love. 💜

PANCREATIC CANCER has the lowest survival rate of all major cancers. It is one of the most aggressive and elusive forms of cancer. Today on World Pancreatic Cancer Day we remember those who fought the disease and those who are currently fighting it. Together we can to a world where surviving pancreatic cancer is expected. On this, our NATIONAL DAY OF TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION, we honour and remember those who did not return from the residential schools they were forced into as children. BENSE McEACHREN CATARACT CENTRE is hiring a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse part-time to assist in the daily clinical operations of our cataract surgical center including pre-operative, post-operative, and operating room areas.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Working knowledge and experience in an ambulatory surgical environment, preferably an operating room, including direct patient care.
· Equivalent course – such as scrub/surgical technician – or willing to acquire the required education/training to assume roles.
· Current registration in good standing with the CRNNL/CLPNNL
· Current BLS certificate required
· ACLS certification is considered an asset/or ability and is willing to complete.
· Excellent customer service skills in dealing with patients, physicians, and our clients.
· Familiar with EMR Documentation. Knowledge of medical record policy and procedure in the management of patient information.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY:
· Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills
· Demonstrates accountability, skill, and knowledge to practice within the scope of position responsibilities.
· Experience working in a fast-paced environment – both independently and as part of a team.

CLINICAL SKILLS:
· Familiar with standard operating room supplies and equipment, computer, and EMR.
· Demonstrates appropriate nursing assessment skills and intervention preoperatively and postoperatively.
· Effectively communicates and interacts with patients, their families, including fellow employees.

QUALITY:
· Supports initiatives designed to improve individual and organizational performance.
· Assumes responsibility for competency and takes initiative for professional development and continuing education.

Staff, patients, friends, and family are invited to drop off any non-perishable food items to our offices between September 26-Oct 5. DONATE YOUR OLD GLASSES. Do you have any old pairs of glasses cluttering your desk? Instead of throwing away their glasses after laser vision correction our LASIK patients donate their glasses. The amazing volunteers of Lions Club team up with NL doctors and optometrists and deliver glasses to countries in need. Before that the donated glasses go to the Bishop Falls correctional centre where they are checked over, cleaned and labelled. Bring in your old glasses and we’ll donate them on your behalf.
