Now Hiring: Project Consultant (12-Month Contract)

Empower, The Disability Resource Centre is seeking a consultant who identifies as a woman or gender diverse person with disability and a survivor of gender-based violence to coordinate a 12-month community project focused on:
✨ Gender-Based Violence Awareness
✨ Strengthen Capacity for trauma-informed disability-accessible programs
✨ Addresses gaps in access to peer support and leadership
We are looking for someone who brings lived experience, leadership, and a passion for community change.

Join us (from anywhere in the province!) for our Online Workshop: Learn How to Use Speech-to-Text on Your Devices.

Speech-to-text lets you talk instead of typing. This can save time and make using technology easier. The session is beginner-friendly and uses plain language.

This workshop is for anyone who finds typing difficult, slow, or tiring. It is also helpful for people with disabilities, seniors, students, staff, and anyone interested in learning simple assistive technology tools. No technical experience is needed.

You will learn what speech-to-text is, how it works, and how to turn it on and use it on Windows and Mac computers, iPhones, iPads, and Android devices. The session will also cover tips to improve accuracy, editing spoken text, and fixing common problems.

Today, EmpowerNL held a site visit for students of the School of Social Work at Memorial University, organized by our Social Work student Jules Kennedy.

Jules, along with our Advocacy Services Manager Joby Fleming, gave a presentation about the Programs and Services offered by EmpowerNL as well as a tour of our facility. It was encouraging to see so many students recognize the importance of learning about people with disabilities and the barriers we face.

EmpowerNL is proud to partner with the School of Social Work for student placements and looks forward to continuing to share our knowledge, expertise and lived experience with the next generation of Social Workers in our province.💙
