The St. John's Fire Fighters Association Executive was proud to attend the Atlantic Provinces Professional Fire Fighters Association Jack Lloyd Educational Seminar in Halifax this week alongside firefighter delegates from across Atlantic Canada.

Over the past few days, we participated in discussions on staffing for safety, collective bargaining preparation, and important hazmat training focused on hazardous materials response, lithium-ion battery incidents, and chemical su***de awareness. These conversations help us bring back valuable knowledge, stronger relationships, and new ideas that directly benefit our membership.

This year’s seminar was especially meaningful as many of us arrived while still mourning the loss of our Brother and Emeritus member, Jimmy O’Toole. It served as a powerful reminder of the importance of our union family, the bonds we share, and the responsibility we carry to continue building on the strong foundation left by those before us.

Thank you to the APPFFA Board for organizing another outstanding event and for continuing to raise the bar for firefighter leadership across the Atlantic Provinces.

Stronger together. Solidarity always. 🔥🚒

Thank you to everyone who attended the visitation, funeral service, and after celebration for Jimmy.

The incredible turnout from members, retirees, friends, fellow firefighters, uniformed services, and supporters from near and far speaks volumes about the kind of man Jimmy was and the lives he touched.

The respect shown throughout the week, from the visitation, to the funeral service, to the stories, laughter, and support shared afterward, reflected the tremendous legacy Jimmy leaves behind.

Coming together after the service to remember Jimmy, share stories, and support one another was exactly the kind of brotherhood he believed in and would have wanted.

Your presence and support have meant more than words can express to Crystal, Gavin, Ryan, and the entire O’Toole family.

Thank you for standing with us, for showing up, and for helping us honour a truly remarkable man.

Rest easy, brother.

Thank you, Senator David Wells, for your kind words and for recognizing Jimmy’s incredible impact.

Jimmy was a tireless advocate for firefighters and first responders, and his work on occupational cancer awareness and presumptive coverage changed lives across Newfoundland and Labrador and beyond.

Your support, especially in helping advance important work like Bill C-224, meant a great deal to him and to all of us who continue that fight.

We are grateful for your words and for standing with Jimmy, his family, and our fire service community.

Thank you.
