Primary lymphedema

I was diagnosed in 2012 , by a wound care/lymphedema specialist nurse.

I have swelling on the right side of my body mostly on my right arm and leg and foot , I’m also more at risk for infections on the affected part of my body. (cellulitis , skin infections ) I have chronic pain in my leg and foot when i have a flare up or when the swelling is bad.

I use my leg pump every day , compression and see an amazing massage therapist (CLT) every two weeks to help manage my pain and help my lymphatic system cooperate with my body.

Tips - Use your pump and compression every day and hook yourself up with a CLT/massage therapist. They are miracle workers. Use the resources that are provided to you. Most importantly try to engage in a low stress exercise like swimming or small walks . They really help!

Don’t worry about other people think. They might stare but don’t worry about it. You are beautiful just the way you are.

Lymphedema is a chronic disease caused by a buildup of lymph fluid. This happens when the lymphatic system is either faulty(primary) or damaged(secondary) and cannot function as normal. It leads to chronic (long-lasting) swelling, most often in the arm or leg.
