In a 42- day negative control trial to determine the effect of feeding broilers with pathogen-immobilizing Cellerate Classic Plus (CCPlus) on bird mortality and pathogen load of Clostridium Perfringens, E. Coli and Salmonella, both parameters saw a drop.

The aforementioned drop in C. Perfringens, E. Coli, and infection rates of Salmonella in intestinal f***l samples and Day 0 – 42 mortality was demonstrated thanks to added mannans and glucans in CCPlus.

Bioavailability is an example of a desirable quality in feed inputs. This quality is even more critical when it comes to trace minerals. Be it owing to a high solubility in aqueous solutions that makes less of it available at the site of absorption in the GI tract (zinc sulphate), or as a result of stronger bonds that make it generally less bioavailable over other zinc options (zinc oxide), zinc hydroxychloride has the upper hand as the most bioavailable inorganic zinc option in livestock nutrition.

Taking into consideration swine nutrition, for example, owing to the huge role zinc plays in scour prevention in weaned piglets, it is therefore not surprising that the same results were obtained by using less zinc hydroxychloride as compared to zinc sulfate and zinc oxide.

The results showed that:

- There was no significant impact on prepartum DMI compared to a non-acidified diet.
- Postpartum DMI was greater for cows fed a fully acidified prepartum diet than control.
- Three-week lactation milk yield was greatest for cows fed the fully acidified diet prepartum.
