The Foundation recently received two $25 Employee Milestone donations.

Milestone donations come from healthcare workers who receive service awards for milestone years that they have worked. They have the option to choose a gift, or make a donation to their charity of choice.

We would like to thank these individuals for their donation and all the time they have invested in serving our community. We appreciate you!

Originally built as a 20 bed facility in 1928, the Stettler Municipal Hospital quickly became too small for the growing Hospital district. In 1949 a 25 bed expansion was built at a cost of $125,000. The Municipal Hospital would put an end to the practice of private hospitals that had operated at various locations over the years in town. During WWII Dr. F.O Galbraith would be the lone-serving doctor. After the war, doctors from all over the world would come to practice at the facility, including Germans, Brits, Irish, and Saskatchewanites. It was rated as a model facility by National medical journals. It was such a well-run operation, the District had paid off its 20 year loan in almost half the time.

AHS recruits 2 new physicians for Stettler and area
Dr. Ude will focus on obstetrics, including prenatal care, deliveries and caesarian sections, while Dr. Onwuzurike is accepting patients as a family physician

Alberta Health Services announced on July 21 that family medicine Dr. Gabriel Ude has joined the team at Stettler Medical Clinic and Stettler Hospital and Care Centre, while Dr. Victoria Onwuzurike is now practicing at Heartland Medical Clinic, and Stettler Hospital and Care Centre.

Dr. Ude will focus on obstetrics, including prenatal care, deliveries and caesarian sections. Dr. Onwuzurike is accepting patients as a family physician.

“The arrival of skilled physicians like Dr. Ude and Dr. Onwuzurike marks an exciting step forward in enhancing access to quality care for families in Stettler and surrounding areas,” said Nate Horner, MLA for Drumheller-Stettler, Alberta Minister of Finance and President of the Treasury Board. "We are delighted to welcome them and look forward to the positive impact they will have on our community.”

Dr. Ude earned his medical degree from Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Nigeria, and holds a master's degree in public health from the University of Derby, England. He is also a member of England’s Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH). Dr. Ude previously served as a physician at Kinetic Hospital and the Federal Medical Centre in Abuja, Nigeria, prior to coming to Canada.

“I was drawn to Stettler by the warmth and hospitality of the community and its healthcare team,” said Dr. Ude, who enjoys lawn tennis, table tennis, cycling and staying active at the gym.

Dr. Onwuzurike received her medical training in Nigeria and practiced there prior to arriving in Canada. In addition to practising full-scope family medicine, she is presently awaiting an assessment to provide low-risk obstetrics in the community.

“Stettler is a great community to raise kids,” said Dr. Onwuzurike. “The people are very welcoming and accommodating, and the AHS hospital staff are very supportive.”

AHS continues to recruit physicians across the Central Zone to meet community needs. AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician recruitment and retention committees.
