Well with ball season over & the heat laying off for a day I decided to finally put the finishing touches on my latest birch bark handle knife! The knife is forged from half of an old Globe file (Made in Canada stamp intact) I kept the hammering & grinding to a minimum simply forging a tip & bevels, then grinding just enough to get an edge but keep the file look & production stamps intact. Finished off with a brass guard, handle made of stacked birch bark, an aluminum & brass spacer, & a Brazilian cherry pommel with steel pin. All recycled material & self harvested bark of course, the dead tree in the photos was the donor. Just about as Canadian as a knife can get!

Finally felt up to doing a little work in the shop so I put the finishing touches on this little beauty for one of my best friends. Forged from leaf spring it’s 8 1/4”overall with a 4 inch blade, the handle, tailored to his 3 fingered hand, is black Cherry with orange liners & steel pins.
I can’t wait to give it him later & he doesn’t have Facebook so likely won’t see this or like it if he does lol but this guy has truly been one of the most loyal & supportive friends I’ve ever had & after years of struggle with addiction he is just a couple months away from his 3 year sobriety anniversary. Anyone that knew ”Crazy Mike” wouldn’t believe the transformation in this man. He’s been an incredible friend, awesome father & just a good fu***ng dude. I’m so proud of him for turning his life around & while early this knife is still a tribute to your victory & our friendship! Til the bitter end my friend! 👊🔪

Still lots of sanding to do before it’s done but it’s starting to look pretty good shaped up with a quick coat of oil! Much darker than expected but I love it! Hope to finish it up before I go for hernia surgery this week

Stacked birch bark handle in progress…so much work but worth it when it’s done!

Finally put the finishing touches on this one & delivered it to my ol man for his 70th bday today! Made from an old crosscut saw blade with Brazilian rosewood for the handle with steel pins. Should make a great kitchen knife for him! Happy birthday Dad, love ya! ❤️🔪

Straight blade style knife I’ve had on my bench for over 2 years is finally done! Forged out of coil spring & wrapped in Brazilian rosewood with brass pins, 100% recycled material as always! Blade is just shy of 4” & it’s 7” total with the blade closed. The polished finish is a ton of work but it sure is pretty ✨ All this baby needs now is some time spent sharpening to get a good razor edge & I’ll give it a try shaving! 🪒

Calling my first hatchet done! I may still do some kind of hand carving on the handle but other than that its finished & I’m pretty happy with it! The newest peice of my personal collection is, of course, forged out of leaf spring. 13” long with a 3” edge, the full tang handle is wrapped in toasted oak with brass pins.

Finished another one for a good friend at work today. 4” skinner, 7.5” overall. Forged from leaf spring, handle is made from my favorite combo of brass & torched oak. 100% recycled material as usual. It’s gonna be hard to let this one go but it’s going to a worthy owner who will put it to good use skinning deer every year!

She’s officially done & I am super happy & proud of this beauty. Forged out of leaf spring this knife was a long time in the making & a true labour of love with my limited equipment. 11.25” overall with a 6” blade, it’s got a stainless steel guard, Brazilian Cherry & Oak with copper spacers & a brass pommel. This knife is a true testament to how far my skills have come in spite of taking a year away from the hobby. The fire truly is lit again inside me & you can expect more cool stuff to come out of the TurpleTuff shop! 🔥⚒️🔪💪

Another awesome afternoon in the shop! Finished hammering out a kitchen knife for my mama, a Serbian Chef knife that someone once asked me if I could make but I can’t remember who 🤷‍♂️ Lol
Also made another stainless shiitake today & another coil spring twisted door handle.
All in all a great weekend of much needed hammer therapy! Now to finish some blades 🔥⚒️💪🔪
