Johnson & Johnson Inc. is recalling Neutrogena Beach Defense and Ultra Sheer children and adult sunscreens, in aerosol spray format, due to elevated levels of benzene, which may pose serious health risks.

If you own one or more of these recalled products, stop using them. If you have used any of these products and have health concerns, consult a health care professional. Continue using other sunscreen as directed on the product label.

Health Canada emphasizes that it is important to use sunscreen to protect from sun damage. Ultraviolet radiation from the sun can cause cancer and other skin effects.

👏 Congrats to Mikenna Hansen who received a Red Cross Rescuer Award after rescuing two people at Kootenay Lake.

Mikenna rescued her neighbour Marsha, and Marsha’s granddaughter, Emma, after the pair drifted from shore and were struggling to get back.

“It’s my belief that if Mikenna hadn’t been there that day, we very likely would have drowned,” says Marsha.

Mikenna says, “I’m just happy that I was there that day... I must also thank my parents for the countless swimming lessons they drove me to as a kid!”

Thank you, Mikenna, for your quick action and bravery!

Cardiac amyloidosis is a condition where a protein gets deposited in the heart, making it stiff. This protein is called amyloid and is caused due to an inherited disease called familial cardiac amyloidosis, as a result of other conditions such as bone or blood cancer, or another medical problem causing inflammation.

Amyloid deposits affect the heart by restricting its movement, rendering it unable to contract and relax efficiently, hence its other names restrictive cardiomyopathy and stiff heart syndrome. Cardiac amyloidosis manifest in symptoms similar to heart failure because while the heart movement is restricted, the blood pools in the lungs and in the body.

This pooling makes the fluid shift from within the vessels and into the soft tissues around it. Fluid present in soft tissue manifests in lower limb edema, and fluid in the lungs manifest as cough, shortness of breath and wheezes. These deposits can also affect the electrical impulses traveling through the heart, leading to arrhythmias.
