The impact of C-sections on babies ⬇
Did you know that birth is a major sensory transition for babies, especially for those born via C-section?
Babies are immediately bombarded with sensory information at birth.
For those born via C-section, this sensory overload might be more drastic due to the sudden change with no warning.
✨ I often wonder if my son’s sensitive nervous system is due to his C-section birth. He was also born with a flat head, likely from malpositioning in utero, which may cause compression on stress-related areas of his brain.
This compression can also be affecting the vagus nerve, which is another key player in the stress and nervous system.
In addition to C-sections being an abrupt entry into the world outside the womb, babies born this way also miss out on tactile, proprioceptive, and vestibular input from the birth canal, which is essential for primitive reflex integration.
These are all the things that I think about when I am supporting my clients whether that be with sleep, reflux, or a child who is having aggression or difficulties at school.
I am hosting a Baby Bodywork At Home workshop on October 11 at 11am, where I'll be teaching various bodywork techniques to help soothe your baby's nervous system, tightness, and overall discomfort.
