🔥👁️ Dry Eye Symptoms: Burning vs. Grittiness — what’s the difference?

Not all dry eye feels the same. The sensation you notice can reveal which part of your tear film is struggling.

Burning = tears evaporating too fast
Often from clogged oil glands (MGD) — common with screens, wind, or A/C.
✔️ Relief: warm compress + lipid-based drops

Gritty / sandy = not enough tears
Low tear production causes friction on the eye surface.
✔️ Relief: preservative-free hydrating drops

Many people have both, so persistent symptoms deserve a dry eye assessment 👩‍⚕️

📺👀 Myth: Sitting too close to the TV damages your vision

Good news — sitting close to the TV doesn’t harm your eyes or cause blindness. That old warning came from outdated 1960s TVs that briefly emitted low-level radiation (long since fixed).

👉 Today’s reality:
• Close viewing = eye strain & fatigue, not damage
• Screens reduce blinking → dry, tired eyes
• Kids who sit very close often already have uncorrected myopia

👁️ If you or your child are always “nose-to-screen,” it’s a sign to book an eye exam.

✔️ Comfort tip: sit ~8–10 ft away and keep the screen at eye level.

👀✨ Signs You Need an Eye Exam — The “Stealth” Indicators

Blurry vision isn’t the only clue your eyes need attention. Many symptoms show up in subtle ways during everyday life.

🔎 Watch for these hidden signs:
• The “3 PM headache” after screens or reading
• New light sensitivity or night glare
• Neck/shoulder tension from leaning to see clearly
• Frequent blinking to “clear” vision
• Misjudging steps, curbs, or distances
• Losing your place while reading

These can point to uncorrected vision, dry eye, binocular issues, or early eye disease. If it’s been 2+ years since your last exam, it’s time to check in 👓

🥕👀 Myth: Eating carrots will significantly improve your eyesight

Carrots are healthy — but they won’t fix blurry vision or replace glasses. The “carrots = super vision” idea actually came from WWII propaganda to hide radar technology!

✨ The Truth
• Carrots contain beta-carotene → Vitamin A
• Vitamin A supports night vision & eye function
• They help prevent deficiency (rare in developed countries)
• They don’t correct prescriptions or improve acuity

🥬 Even Better Eye Foods
• Leafy greens (lutein & zeaxanthin)
• Fatty fish (omega-3s)
• Sweet potatoes (beta-carotene)

Balanced nutrition supports eye health — but clear vision still needs proper correction 👓

✨ Ingredient Deep Dive: Retinol 0.5 ✨

Retinol is one of the most well-researched ingredients in skincare and a true gold standard for improving overall skin health.

AlumierMD’s Retinol 0.5 contains a stabilized form of Vitamin A that works to support skin renewal and stimulate collagen production. As we age, our natural cell turnover slows down, which can lead to dullness, uneven texture, and the appearance of fine lines. Retinol helps accelerate this renewal process, revealing smoother, brighter, and healthier-looking skin.

Benefits of Retinol 0.5 include:• Improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles• Helps support collagen production• Refines skin texture and tone• Helps reduce the look of congestion and breakouts• Promotes brighter, more radiant skin

Because retinol is active, it’s important to introduce it gradually into your routine. I always recommend starting a few nights per week and building up as your skin adjusts.

Pairing retinol with barrier-supporting ingredients and daily SPF is key for maintaining healthy, resilient skin.

Have questions about retinol or wondering if it’s right for your skin type?

Active Stye Treatment – Real Results ✨

This Before & After shows the improvement after 3 combination treatments for an active stye (photo shown here was taken after the 3rd session) and we completed a series of 4.

For this case, we used:
🔹 IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) directly over the stye
🔹 RF Radiofrequency on the upper and lower lids

This combination helps:
✔️ Reduce inflammation
✔️ Target bacteria and vascular components
✔️ Unclog and melt hardened oils
✔️ Support resolution of associated chalazion

Styes and chalazia are often linked to meibomian gland dysfunction. Treating the underlying gland blockage is key to long-term relief - not just temporary symptom control.

If you’re dealing with recurring styes, lid swelling, or tenderness, there are non-invasive treatment options available. Book a consultation to see if combination IPL + RF therapy is right for you.

Proper lens care is essential to prevent serious infections and keep your eyes healthy.

✨ The Golden Rule
• Wash & dry hands before handling lenses
• Avoid moisturizing soaps

💧 Rub & Rinse Routine
Even “no-rub” solutions still need it:
• Rub lens 15–20 sec with fresh solution
• Rinse thoroughly
• Soak in clean case with fresh solution

🚫 Solution & Case Safety
• Never top off old solution
• Never use water or saliva
• Air-dry case & replace every 3 months

🏊‍♀️ Lifestyle Tips
• No swimming/showering in lenses
• Insert before makeup
• Don’t sleep in lenses (unless prescribed)
