Dinner for my 6 month old (and me) tonight: ground beef, organic Greek yogurt, and water with electrolytes 🤣👌

Whatever works, honestly.

So many baby foods are refined grain-based, with added sugars and preservatives… not ideal. No thank you.

When we’re having meat as a family, I’ll mash or finely chop small pieces and mix it with yogurt or applesauce to make it smooth and easy to eat. Spoon-feeding little amounts of one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet — animal protein — is a priority for me.

First though? Breastmilk. As much as his little heart desires 👌

Then we layer in soft fruits, maybe some rice cookies here and there, and keep it simple.

No nutrient-void baby cereals needed over here.

Perimenopause is a critical window — not something to wait out

During perimenopause, hormone shifts can accelerate changes in bone strength, mood, metabolism, and more. Acting sooner rather than later can help reduce or prevent some of those changes.

Too often people are told to simply wait it out. But waiting isn’t a neutral choice; it can mean missing a chance to support health proactively.

Estrogen decline affects multiple systems — bones, brain, metabolic health, and beyond. Hormone replacement therapy may be a helpful option for some, though it isn’t right for everyone. Avoiding it solely out of fear or misinformation can also carry risks.

If you’d like guidance or treatment during perimenopause, you’re welcome to reach out. As an ND with advanced prescribing rights, I can help you explore whether HRT or other evidence‑informed options make sense for you, and support you through.

Conversations I’ve been having in clinic lately…

✨ Irregular periods, perimenopause & when (and how) to start hormone replacement therapy
✨ Indigestion, bloating & constipation — and what your gut might be trying to tell you
✨ Blood sugar balance — from insulin resistance to pre-diabetes and beyond
✨ Cardiovascular health & understanding your long-term risk trajectory
✨ Weight gain — hormones vs. lifestyle (and how to actually tell the difference)
✨ Sleep struggles, low energy & circadian rhythm disruptions
✨ The short- and long-term impact of medications on the body
✨ Hair thinning & loss — getting to the root cause
✨ Fungal overgrowth — why it happens, why it comes back & how it ties into blood sugar
✨ Helping patients find aligned, trusted medical providers in their area
✨ Coordinating care & referrals (including functional prescribing support when needed)
✨ Lab testing, imaging & making sense of your results so you can advocate for your health

These conversations go beyond quick fixes.
They’re about understanding your body, connecting patterns, and making informed decisions about your health.

If you’re ready to dive deeper into your health and have these kinds of conversations — we’re here for it.

🐣 New Little Family Project 🥚

We brought home baby chicks last week and the kids are excited.

Part of the motivation (if I’m being honest) is getting everyone back outside once the warmer weather hits. This winter, with "three under three" we definitely leaned on screens more than we would have liked, so we wanted something that naturally builds outdoor time and daily responsibility into their routine.

The chicks are the perfect little motivator. 🐥

Soon their daily routine will include:
• feeding and watering them
• checking on them in the coop
• helping with small chores
• spending more time outside instead of in front of a screen

It’s also a fun way for them to connect with animals and watch something grow that we care for every day.

For now we’re enjoying the chirping, the fluffy cuddles, and the excitement around this new adventure. 🐥🐤🐥🐤🐥

And eventually… our very own farm fresh eggs 🥚

- One thing I talk about with my patients a lot is their future.

People come in sharing what they’re noticing in their bodies today — the fatigue, the headaches, the digestion changes, the hormone shifts, the aches that didn’t used to be there.

But we don’t just talk about today.

I bring up what things could look like 5, 10, or 20 years from now if those patterns continue the same way… if they worsen… or if we support the body and shift the trajectory.

Because the real goal of healthcare isn’t just feeling a little better this month.

The goal is quality of life — now, and as we age.

Unfortunately, many people spend the last two or even three decades of their lives managing significant chronic conditions. Years that could be much gentler, more mobile, and more enjoyable.

The good news is that the trajectory can change.

The small things we support today — metabolism, hormones, inflammation, digestion, stress resilience — quietly shape the decades ahead.

Future you is being built right now.

And you deserve to feel good there too.

A prospective single-cohort study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (2023) investigated the efficacy of oral N-acetylcysteine (NAC) in women with endometriosis. The study included 120 patients aged 18–45 years who received NAC 600 mg three times daily for three consecutive days per week over a three-month period. Results showed significant improvements in endometriosis-related pain symptoms, including dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, and chronic pelvic pain, as measured by Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores. The use of NSAIDs significantly decreased, and there was a meaningful reduction in the average size of ovarian endometriomas as well as serum Ca125 levels, suggesting reduced inflammatory activity.

Additionally, among the 52 women who expressed a desire for pregnancy, 39 achieved spontaneous conception within six months of initiating NAC therapy, and 6 conceived through assisted reproductive techniques. These findings indicate that NAC’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties may contribute to improved fertility outcomes, possibly by enhancing oocyte quality and reducing oxidative stress. Overall, the study suggests that NAC may serve as a safe and effective non-hormonal therapeutic option for managing pain, reducing lesion size, lowering Ca125 levels, and supporting fertility in women with endometriosis.

Cozy in a bowl 🧡

Carrot + sweet potato soup topped with creamy goat cheese and dry roasted, salted pumpkin seeds.

A little sweet. A little savoury. A little crunch.

This combo brings fibre, beta-carotene, and healthy fats together in the most comforting way — blood sugar friendly, gut loving, and seriously satisfying.

Simple ingredients. Big flavour.

Groceries are expensive right now — I hear it in patient consults every single week. So many people tell me they want to eat healthier… but they’re worried it’s just too expensive.

It’s completely understandable. Food prices have shifted a lot, and convenience foods can feel like the easiest solution when life is full.

But something interesting I’ve noticed?

Often the cart is filled with boxed, packaged, “quick” foods that actually cost more per serving — while delivering far less nourishment.

This 📸 is a simple example of a different approach:

For $69 (on sale from just over $100), my husband picked up a large cut of beef and broke it down at home:
🥩 12 steaks
🍖 1 roast
🍔 ~2 lbs ground beef (thanks to our KitchenAid attachment)

That’s a freezer stocked with high-quality protein — iron, B12, zinc, creatine — at a very reasonable cost per serving.

Not extreme. Not complicated. Just intentional.

Here are a few shifts that can make a difference:

🛒 Shopping the perimeter of the store more often
🥦 Prioritizing whole foods
❄️ Buying on sale + freezing
🔪 Learning a few simple prep skills

Whole food eating doesn’t have to mean boutique grocery bills or specialty products.

Often it’s about:
• Buying strategically
• Watching for sales
• Stocking your freezer
• Cooking simply

You can often stay within your grocery budget — and sometimes even reduce it — while nourishing your body and your family well.

Health isn’t about perfection.
It’s about small, repeatable shifts over time.

1️⃣ What’s one whole food you could buy in bulk and stretch further?
2️⃣ What’s one packaged item you’ve noticed climbing in price lately?

Curious what you’re noticing.
