Change is a stress factor even when the change is a positive one. I believe the main reason is that there is an unknown factor with any change. We don’t know what the new situation will feel like or be like.
We are now living in a world of constant change. Changes to economy, changing rules, change of job or hours or location, change of routine, change if school. We get use to one change and another replaces it. Sometimes we are dealing with multiple changes all at the same time. We want to know; we want to plan; we want to see the future, but we can’t.
Becoming resilient to change, involves reminding yourself, frequently, that change is not really dangerous, it is just not known. It may feel dangerous when we don’t know, but it is not necessarily dangerous or bad. We also become more resilient when we accept the unknown: maybe we don’t really need to know..... Maybe we can accept that the future is not ours to know. Maybe we can say ‘I don’t know what will happen, but I am still ok’.
