Samadhi — the 8th limb of Yoga 🧘‍♀️

Samadhi is the culmination of the yogic path. It’s often described as union, absorption, or deep inner peace—a state where the sense of separation falls away.

In yoga philosophy, Samadhi isn’t something you can force or “achieve.” It naturally arises after consistent practice of the previous limbs—especially concentration (Dharana) and meditation (Dhyana).

In Samadhi:
• the mind becomes completely still
• the observer and the object of meditation merge
• there is a feeling of wholeness, clarity, and profound peace

Rather than thinking about something, you are simply fully present—with no grasping, no resistance, and no ego-driven effort.

This doesn’t mean leaving everyday life behind or becoming detached from the world. Moments of Samadhi can be subtle and brief—like feeling deeply connected, completely at ease, or aligned with something greater than yourself.

In daily life, Samadhi may feel like:
✨ a deep sense of belonging
✨ inner freedom, even amidst challenges
✨ peace that isn’t dependent on circumstances

Samadhi reminds us that yoga is not just a practice—it’s a return to our true nature.

Dhyana — the 7th limb of Yoga 🧘‍♀️
Dhyana is meditation—the natural next step after concentration (Dharana).
In yoga philosophy, Dhyana isn’t something you do, it’s a state you enter when focus becomes steady and effortless.

Where Dharana is practicing attention on one point, Dhyana is when that focus flows continuously, without interruption. The mind is no longer jumping from thought to thought—it becomes quiet, spacious, and observant.

You’re not forcing the mind to be still.
You’re simply resting in awareness.

In Dhyana:
• the observer and the object of focus begin to soften
• thoughts may still arise, but they no longer pull you away
• there is a sense of calm presence and inner connection

This is why meditation isn’t about “clearing your mind.” It’s about being with what is, without attachment or resistance.

In everyday life, Dhyana can show up as:
✨ deep listening
✨ feeling fully absorbed in a moment
✨ a sense of peace even when life feels busy

Dhyana reminds us that stillness isn’t separate from us—it’s already there, waiting beneath the noise.

Dharana — the 6th limb of Yoga 🧘‍♀️
Dharana means concentration or focused attention.

In yoga philosophy, it’s the practice of gently training the mind to rest on one point without constantly drifting away.
That point of focus could be:
• your breath
• a mantra or word
• a candle flame
• a sensation in the body
• or even a single thought

Rather than trying to stop thoughts altogether, Dharana teaches us to notice when the mind wanders and calmly bring it back—again and again. No judgment, no force.
This limb comes after Pratyahara (turning inward), because once distractions soften, the mind becomes capable of sustained focus. Over time, Dharana builds mental steadiness, clarity, and inner discipline.

In daily life, Dharana looks like:
✨ being fully present in a conversation
✨ completing a task without constant multitasking
✨ staying with one breath, one moment at a time

Dharana is the bridge between the physical practices of yoga and deeper meditation. Focused awareness is the doorway—presence is the practice.

Pratyahara: Turning Inward

Pratyahara is the fifth limb of yoga and is all about withdrawing your senses from external distractions. It’s like giving your mind a break from the constant noise of the world so you can turn inward and connect with yourself.

Practicing pratyahara helps calm the nervous system, improve focus, and prepare the mind for deeper practices like meditation. It’s a reminder that true balance comes not just from movement or breath, but from learning to step back and tune in.

Step back.
Notice yourself.
Find your center.

Pranayama: The Power of the Breath

Pranayama is the fourth limb of yoga and refers to conscious breathing practices. In yoga philosophy, breath is seen as life force energy (prana), and pranayama teaches us how to direct and regulate it.

Through intentional breathing, pranayama helps calm the nervous system, improve focus, and support emotional balance. It bridges the body and mind—helping us move from doing into being.

Pranayama reminds us that the breath is one of our most powerful tools for regulating stress and creating inner steadiness.

Breathe with intention.
Change how you feel.
