Hi Everyone!

Below is an email that I just sent out this morning. ..
I want to give you an update about what I'm doing to get ready to see you, and share some of the guidelines that will have to be in place. We will need to follow these guidelines as we get you into treatment.

Details
I'm currently working my way through online learning modules set out by public health which are required for me to complete before I can open. Part of the protocols set out require that both myself and clients wear disposable surgical or reusable masks during treatment. Having said that, though, I realize that some of you have conditions (ie. asthma, COPD) in which wearing a mask while lying down on your stomach would be very uncomfortable and make it hard to breathe. This is the only circumstance in which I would be willing to discuss other options. It is imperative that we observe the recommendations from Public Health.

I am investing money and resources in creating a space that is easy to sanitize and allows any water droplets that may contain the covid-19 virus to fall to the floor where they present the lowest risk. I am doing this for the safety of you, our community as well as my family and myself. Some of these pieces of equipment will not be in until the end of next week, so I do not think I will be able to open until June 15th, at the earliest.

When someone wants to book an appointment with me, it will require that they go online to fill out a questionnaire regarding their pain (which will help me triage which patients need to be seen sooner than later) and a covid-19 pre-screening assessment.

I realize that some of these interim standards that I am trying to uphold in my clinic are significant changes to processes we’ve had in the past, however, it is important for us to to follow all the guidelines set out by Public Health and the CMTO.
Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding during this time.

Patient FAQ

What is involved in the Patient Screening?
Part of the new protocol requires RMT’s to assess each client individually, trying to determine if the anticipated benefits of treatment outweigh the risks to the client and the RMT. Part of that assessment is the Patient Screening, and determining the risk each client presents. Patient Screening will be a two part process, using an online form and during your appointment. This will give us information to help us form a treatment plan together.

How do I prepare for an appointment?
It will be required that each client come wearing their own fresh/clean cloth mask or disposable mask that will have to be worn during the entire time in the clinic, including during treatment.

There are other hygiene protocols that the clinic will be strictly following.

When would I have my treatment deferred or be refused treatment?
Treatment will either be deferred or refused if:
Patient Screening indicates that the patient is showing symptoms of cold or flu
Patient Screening indicates treatment is not of urgent benefit to the client
Non-compliance from the client with any of guidelines laid out by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario
Non-compliance from client with hygiene protocols set out by East End Therapeutics

I know that some of you may likely be anxious to visit soon as three months without treatment has left you in pain and incredible discomfort. I strive to re-open responsibly, ensuring the health and safety of all my clients, my family and myself. Our community’s health is of extreme importance, so your cooperation and patience with East End Therapeutics' careful re-opening plan is deeply appreciated.

I hope to be in contact with you soon with booking appointments and detailed protocols for visits.

Thank you in advance for your understanding in these difficult times.

Sincerely,

Elijah Velasco, RMT

Just a guideline that I'm working with for now. Stay tuned for more info, please.

As the Province "re-opens", conscientious Registered Massage Therapists are doing everything they can to minimize risk, and gradually return to work.

The orders by the minister of health, and our College, make it clear that we need to be very diligent in protecting our patients before anything else.

Making a proper plan to return to work, so that we can safely administer therapy to our patients, while maintaining high standards of sanitization, and cleanliness, in full accordance with legislation, will be our top priority.

We are working to get to a point where we can see everybody once again. During this critical phase one of the return-to-work Directive, we need to be hyper diligent not to increase anyone's risk, or to create a possible increase to that all important curve.

Your health care is very important to us, and we will get people in when it is possible.

Thank you for your understanding, and everything that you've done to help protect the population of this province along with us.

Trying on the PPE I bought. Can you tell I'm excited to see my clients again?

Keep reading for the email that I sent out this morning.
...

It has been over two and a half months since I’ve seen any of you. I sincerely hope that you all have been dealing with all of this as well as possible, and that you and yours are safe and healthy.

I am pleased to share that East End Therapeutics can begin the process of slowly re-opening for treatments. This email provides an update as to how we will proceed with re-opening.

On May 27th, there was amendment to the Directive #2 for Health Care Providers from the Ontario Government, which allows Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) to gradually restart their work. There are recommendations from The College of Massage Therapists (CMTO) as to how treatments can slowly begin.

East End Therapeutics will carefully follow the CMTO’s advice on best practice.

I am currently working to align new protocols, procedures with public health policies. You can expect additional information when I have more details of what East End Therapeutics reopening plan looks like. My next follow up email will include a brief pain and function questionnaire that will help me prioritize treatment needs (as required by the CMTO), so you can expect that in the next email.

I know that some of you may likely be anxious to visit soon - as two and half months of no treatment has left you in pain and discomfort. I will strive to do my best to re-open as quickly as possible. However, I’m sure you can appreciate that reopening should not compromise the health and safety of all my clients, my family and myself. Our community’s health is of extreme importance, so your cooperation and patience with East End Therapeutics' careful re-opening plan is deeply appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Elijah Velasco, RMT

Growth when you feel like it’s over

So, this is a plant that I inherited from my MIL. It’s a Dracaena plant, which is supposed to be very easy to care for. But, I didn’t know how to take care of it. I let it dry out, and didn’t give it enough indirect light. Some of the leaves turned yellow, and started to fall off. So, I looked up how to take care of it. Fertilizer and the addition of a grow light in the clinic. And then a half-inch of the top dried up and fell off. I thought that my efforts to help the plant were a matter of too little too late; I thought it was only a bit more time before it died completely.

But then, the leaves started to look shinier. The leaves stopped falling. And lo and behold, right at the place where that chunk dried and fell off, I can see signs of new growth! It’s great!

Sometimes, when we feel like we’re not doing enough, it’s just the right amount. Maybe it’s enough to help you level up to a place where you can take bigger leaps. And maybe, in the areas of life where there seems to be the worst happening, it is just a way to make room for growth.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to let you know that I'm planning to start posting on this account more frequently. My hope is to share my thoughts on how to take care of ourselves better and make the most out of our health. On that note, please enjoy the idea of an almost 40 year old learning how to skate on the Rideau canal while quasi swearing and stumbling. I imagine my hamstrings glutes and lower back will be very sore tomorrow. It was a good time though, highlighted by quality time with my family and delicious poutine.

New addition to the plants in the clinic. I was lucky to be a part of a succulent workshop yesterday, so I made a planting and learned how not kill my existing succulents.
