Hospice is often misunderstood, and those misconceptions can prevent people from accessing support sooner.

This Myth vs. Fact series is our way of gently addressing common misunderstandings and opening the door to informed, compassionate conversations.

We're starting with one of the most common myths: that hospice is only for the final days. Hospice care is about comfort, dignity, and support, and it can begin much earlier than people realize.

After the loss of a partner, parenting can feel overwhelming and isolating.

Our upcoming virtual bereavement group for those who are widowed with children begins next Wednesday, January 14th, at 7 pm on Zoom. This group will offer a safe and supportive space to connect with others who truly understand.

This group is open to all, and we encourage you to share this with those in your circle who may benefit.

This little stack of blocks tells a story. Left behind by a child who came to play while spending time with someone they love, it serves as a gentle reminder that hospice holds space for life in all its seasons.

Our hospice home has many thoughtfully created spaces for loved ones and visitors, places where comfort, play, and presence all belong. This is just one of the many simple ways we make every moment matter for those in our care.

A visit from Ellie is always a bright spot. 🩵

We're so grateful for volunteer Shawna and her lovely therapy dog Ellie, who generously share their time, hearts, and gentle presence with our residents, loved ones, staff and volunteers.

Therapy dog visits make a meaningful difference here at Rotary Hospice. If you're part of a certified therapy dog team and would like to get involved, we welcome you to reach out to Chelsey, our Coordinator of Volunteers, at chelsey@rotaryhospice.ca

With deep appreciation to Andy & Karen Gibb, who chose to honour the memory of Sheila Crisp with a generous donation to our Every Day Counts campaign on her birthday. Today, we celebrate a life well-lived and dearly remembered.

The Every Day Counts campaign helps support Rotary Hospice by inviting individuals to contribute $350, which is the amount needed to cover operating costs per room per day. While residents receive care at no cost, Rotary Hospice depends on community donations to cover essential expenses not funded by the government. Your support directly enhances the quality of care we provide, helping us remain a place of comfort, dignity, and compassion. We are deeply grateful to author Deidre Gerrits for donating three copies of her book 'My Parents Died' to our hospice library. Deidre recently visited Rotary Hospice to bring us her books, take a tour of our hospice home, and share a lovely and meaningful conversation together.

Drawing from her own experience navigating the weeks and months following the deaths of her parents, Deidre offers honest insight, practical guidance, and compassion for others facing loss and the often complicated time that follows.

We are honoured to make her book available to those in our care and our community. Thank you, Deidre.
