I come by this work honestly.

As somebody that has had their fair share of hormone drama (PCOS and heartbreaking hair loss, irregular periods, major PMS mood swings) I love helping to support women in navigating their own menstrual cycles and hormonal transitions with higher quality evidence, tailored individualized treatment plans and a whole lot of compassion.

The hill that I will absolutely die on is that exercise makes it all work much better. We tend to have less PMS symptoms and move through our icky hormonal days much more gracefully when we can have a break to take care of ourselves, lift some heavy stuff to move through our stress and strengthen our bodies.

Try to fight me on it. Or just try it out. I promise you will be better for that workout.

I don't "do" health to live in a rigid world of complex routines where we wake up at 5 am to complete a 10 step ritual, eat only perfect foods and take an expensive supplement "stack" to combat a lifestyle that isn't working.

I believe in personal growth, but never at the expense of enjoying the moment and appreciating where my two feet are planted.

I am excited about testing and blood work as it can help us get to the root of the problem and eliminate a lot of guess work. But we don't just stop there, with a test to "tell me what's wrong with me" and then only half ass commit to a reasonable solution.

We don't do this alone. To be well, we were never meant to.

My version of health is about adaptability. Being able to access well-being when I need to hoist a canoe over my head and onto the truck. Cobble together a healthy meal with lots of fiber, and take rest when we need. It's prioritizing time with my favorite people, and appreciating high quality learning (👋 ) to better support my patients.

If this sounds like you, please follow along and share my account with someone you know that also appreciates a calmer, sane and grounded approach to well-being ❤️✨

Today's sweat angel may be helping me delay age-related bone loss by several years.

Will one workout alone, do it? Likely not. But one workout a few times a week over the course of decades, particularly if you are starting in your teens and twenties certainly can.

Did you know that peak bone mass is attained in our teens and early twenties and for women in particular the biggest gains are made within 4 years of puberty?

This means that we have a critical window to really encourage physical activity, especially activities where we are jarring our bones like basketball, volleyball, jogging, etc. to help shape our bones to continue to do those things.

Women that are consistently active, especially during these peak bone mass building years can delay the onset of age-related bone density, decline, menopause and osteoporosis up to several years compared to women that are less active in their young adulthood or those that lose their periods before age 45.

This matters because osteoporosis and bone loss are major risk factors for falls, annoying fractures, and more catastrophic fractures that can significantly impair quality of life in women with age.

So.... What are you doing today to help build your bones? Let me know in the comments below 🦴👇

I'm always learning and looking for better ways to understand how it's all connected.

Today's read is from The British Journal of Psychiatry reviewing what we know so far about the connections between PMS, pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), how we handle stress and the role that a history of trauma plays.

Spoiler Alert: it's connected. If you experience a significant amount of stress, you are more likely to experience PMS symptoms.. And PMS symptoms can cause a whole lot of stress. If you have a history of trauma, particularly early in life, you are 2.5x more likely to have PMS or PMDD.

Navigating work events and summer where alcohol flows freely?

Inspired by many conversations this summer where there is inherent pressure to drink AND you have made the decision to cut back... here are some of my favorite NO THANK YOU responses =)

🍷 You can still join in the fun — without the drink in your hand. Here are my favourite ways to say “no thanks” with style, so you can protect your health, energy, and confidence. 💪
✨ Which one will you try?

Yesterday was my birthday.

I'm officially in my "middle age" years. The middle years where I'm raising my babies with my husband that I grew up with, grateful to be able to visit and know my parents better and a career that feels like relaunching in the best way.

I feel a lot more established than I did in my twenties and early thirties, yet still question if I am "old enough" to be in charge. I seriously still look around for a grown up sometimes.

I am beyond honored to spend my days supporting women through their midlife, where they are rediscovering themselves and demanding better.

It is a gift that I do not take for granted for one second.

To those of you that I have been working with for the past many years: I see you, I appreciate you and I am grateful for you.

If you are somewhere in the messy middle in your life, please know that I am here for you. You are my favorite part about what I do.

08/10/2025

As women approach perimenopause, ovulation patterns become less consistent. LOOP cycles occur when follicle development and ovulation happen out of their usual timing. This can result in two main scenarios:

➡Short cycles: Sometimes, a new follicle develops and ovulates during the luteal phase of the previous cycle. This leads to a shorter-than-usual menstrual cycle.

➡➡➡Long cycles: If an anovulatory cycle (where no egg is released) follows a LOOP cycle, it can result in a longer period between menstrual cycles.

LOOP cycles are caused by changes in hormone levels, particularly:

Rising FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) levels, as the body tries to stimulate the ovaries to produce eggs.
🔁Inconsistent estrogen and progesterone production.

These hormonal fluctuations can lead to irregular cycle lengths, with some being very short and others very long, or short cycles followed by long ones. This pattern is a normal part of the perimenopause transition and explains why their periods may become unpredictable.

🔄 Perimenopause got you in a LOOP? 🤔

Your periods playing hide and seek? Blame it on LOOP cycles! 🎢

So basically, it's all thanks to your hormones throwing a party. 🎉

Don't stress, it's just your body's natural transition. Track those cycles and chat with your doc for peace of mind. 🧘‍♀️
