Plantain!

Another amazing backyard herb that no doubt you come across daily during these beautiful summer months.

Plantain loves to grow in stepped on, rocky soil, alongside dandelion, and anywhere nature seeks to regenerate the soil. Indigenous people called it "White man's foot" as where ever the Europeans treaded the ground, Plantain sprung up!

Plantain works amazing on different skin irritations such as bug bites because of its ability to draw the toxins out of the body due to its astringent nature. For stings, splinters, glass shards, rashes, bites you can crush or chew plantain, make a poultice directly over the site and bandage the area for a minimum of 4-12 hours for relief.

It is also a digestive system wonder! Plantain is especially useful for people whose systems have been ravaged by antibiotics, pain and Anti inflammatory medications, celiac disease or other food allergies. Leaves and specifically the seeds are very powerful for targeted healing of this system.

The leaves may be steeped as a tea, eaten as part of a salad, added to soups and stews, or dried and eaten as chips! Plantain seeds are a type of psyllium and can be ground and soaked for bulk mucilage/absorbable fibre.

Plantain is also high in silica which can make it useful as an infusion for treating lung problems, coughs and colds.

So ditch the afterbite (it is good in a pinch) get out and find some plantain and let your healing begin!

*forage responsibly away from high traffic or possible sprayed areas.*

Bonfire Heart Grief Tea

Herbs don't only work in the physical body, they also lend a hand emotionally as well when we are in need of some extra support.

Grief comes in many different forms from lots of different life experiences:

Becoming a parent (grieving who you once were)
Changing/losing a job
Loss of a loved one
World events
Divorce
Loss of a pet
End of a relationship (romantic or other)
Discrimination
Anticipation of Grief
And the list goes on...

Grief is not an easy emotion to feel. It's not enjoyable, it doesn't feel good (in the moment) but it is good for us. Stuck and repressed emotions can potentially lead to other medical conditions in future. We need to give ourselves the grace to move through these feelings. What does Grief show us if not what is important in our lives? What truly matters to us? We all have the capacity to move through hard emotions and come out stronger. Let it out, feel all the feels, in the end your capacity to feel positive emotions will be that much greater.

Allow these herbs to help soothe your heart, uplift your spirits and nourish your nervous system. Bonfire Heart encourages compassion to self and others while opening the heart and instilling a sense of courage while you move through your Grief, forward to the other side.

Hey! It's been a minute since I've been on here. It's been a crazy past couple weeks with dance wrapping up, baseball, my husband home and everything that comes along with that. But things are slowing down or flowing more evenly so that's a relief.

How's everyone's gardens looking? Are you finished planting? I did a couple new things in mine this year that I'm excited about such as edible Chrysanthemum and 3 varieties of Calendula as well as Lemon Balm and Mint which I've never grown before. Are you growing something new in your garden this year?

I also planted on that really hot day 2 weeks back and went full tomato 🍅 the winter skin did not like that... thankful to have some some help from my herbs and my burn didn't last long and no peeling! Stay tuned.

Boost Me Up Baby!

My husband works out of town and stays in a camp while he's gone. This infusion has been a real help this winter for his immune system. Plus we both feel better knowing he's taking something natural that we know know what the ingredients are! He starts drinking it at home the week before he leaves and then he's good to go. He's only had one small cold and it was while he was home, we doubled up on the infusion and it was gone in a couple days.
