I used to think growth was supposed to be constant. That if I was doing it right, I'd just keep moving forwardโalways improving, always expanding, always becoming more.
Then I started paying attention to the forest and to the seasons of nature. Spring๐ท. Summer๐. Autumn๐. Winterโ. A cycle beginsโthen it ends, only for a new cycle to begin again. It got me thinking about how the seasons of change relates to the cycles of growth during the therapeutic process.
What I've learned is that nature doesn't hand us answersโit mirrors back our own wisdom. It shows us that all four seasons are necessary. Spring for new beginnings, vulnerability, and courage. Summer for deeper processing, practicing skills, and sustaining progress. Autumn for letting go and making space for transformation. Winter for resting, stillness, and the invisible growth that happens beneath the surface.
I learned that transformation isn't linear and that wherever you are, you're exactly where you need to be.
The tree doesn't rush its Spring. It trusts the process. Maybe we can too.
Nature is such a powerful teacher and a natural healer. It's filled with metaphors like these where clients can find deeper meaning and symbolism, creating their own narrative to their healing journey. Our therapists help them to discover and explore this process, encourage their growth and sustenance.
