Enjoying no snow and a mild evening, horses saunter in for hay. They’re much more eager to be fed when it’s cold and snowy, as pawing for grass in the pasture is more work.

Thousands of horses went to war and never came home.
They carried our soldiers, pulled our supplies, and stood beside them through unimaginable conditions.
Their strength, loyalty, and quiet bravery are woven deeply into our history. 🕊️🐴

As we move through our peaceful days, let’s remember the lives that made that peace possible.

Circa 1979, the expression on Buddy’s face…
My dad got out the needle nosed pliers, yanked all the quills, and we loaded him, hauled him an hr and a half, rode a full afternoon, hauled home and threw him out to pasture.
If I found a horse of mine looking like this today, I’d probably have the vet, sedation, possibly pain killers, and give the horse time off!

Mac had been hanging back from joining clients for awhile, but warmed up to this partner, even balancing all 4 hooves on ‘the podium’, not easy for his long body, and less coordinated limbs, he ‘fell off’ on a different attempt. Not a high energy horse, he exerted some effort to respond, rewarding his partner’s positive energy.

Tinker enjoyed her partner, and climbing on ‘the podium’, and trotting merrily beside her, all with a soft eye. Both seemed delighted.

Bella chose her partner, then was a willing follower, comfortable enough to put her front hooves on the ‘podium’ and enjoy a good stretch. Enjoyed seeing their bond.

Bella is a dramatic yawner, in this case I believe showing an increase in parasympathetic nervous system activity, which is associated with calming and relaxing.
