Bunny tails might not technically be a flower, but they’re in every bouquet I make—they add a little bit of texture, interest, and cuteness!

I start mine indoors about 4 weeks before our last frost. I haven’t tried direct sowing yet, but you definitely can—and I’ve heard they do really well in containers (something I must try this season!).

They’re also a cut and come again plant, so the more you harvest, the more they grow.

They dry beautifully too, making them a favourite for holiday wreaths, floral pumpkins, and more. And if you visit the garden, keep an eye out… we have a little reading bunny tucked into the bunny tail patch for kids to find 🐰📚

Though not a flower… who loves bunny tails?

Easy flowers to grow: Strawflowers

I hate to pick favourites but these might just be it! Strawflowers are an easy cut flower to grow. I start mine indoors under lights, but you can absolutely direct seed them too. Just know you’ll likely be waiting until August (or later) for blooms if you go that route.

They’re often the very first flowers to bloom in my garden (they don’t mind the cooler weather) and the last to go in the fall (they can handle a light frost!).

They’re a true cut-and-come-again flower—the more you harvest, the more they keep producing. I grow hundreds each season in shades of orange, pink, white, and peach.

And the best part? They dry beautifully. I use them in my wreaths, holiday jars, and floral pumpkins all season long.

We’re waiting on a little more winter here on the Island… but I know it won’t be long before the sun is shining, and I’m out in the garden picking buckets of flowers.

I hope you all will join me in the garden this season to pick locally grown flowers!

I often get asked where I source my flower seeds, so I thought I’d share a few of my go-to Canadian companies!

I have ordered from Johnny’s Seeds in the U.S., and their quality truly is incredible—but between the high shipping costs, duty fees, and exchange, it adds up quickly. More and more, I’m choosing to support Canadian businesses, and honestly, I’ve been so happy with the quality and selection right here at home.

Have I missed a seed company you like?

🌸 Easy Flowers to Grow: Cosmos 🌸

Cosmos are one of the easiest flowers to grow—and such a dream in the garden. I grow Apricotta, Double Click, Cupcake, Bright Lights, and Purity.

I start mine under lights about 4 weeks before the last frost, but they grow beautifully direct from seed too.

I love how light and airy they are and how they sway in the wind!

What’s your favorite variety or color of cosmo?

Windfall zinnia seeds arrived in the mail yesterday and I couldn’t be more excited. These beauties are bred by Barb on her farm in British Columbia. I feel so lucky to grow flowers that come from such care, patience, and a true passion for growing.

A little highland update!
We’ve sold our highlands. With my dad getting a knee replacement next month (yay!), it felt like the right time.

We’re looking ahead to 2026 and dreaming about what farm animals might join us next — we’re just not quite sure who yet 🐑🐐🐓🐄🐖

I’ll be the first to admit—the garden is a lot of work.
But this little flower farm has given me so much joy.

I started this garden after my mother-in-law was diagnosed with cancer shortly after she retired. I watched her retirement dreams quietly disappear. One of my retirement dreams was always to grow a cut flower garden—and in that moment, I knew I couldn’t wait.

The timing doesn’t always make sense with a busy household and a full-time teaching job (one I’ll never leave), but we make it work.

Thank you for supporting this dream.
It truly means more than you know❤️

These beautiful floral cookies were made by my dear friend Christine

Christine visits the garden, hand-picks our edible flowers, delicately presses them, and turns them into the most delicious little works of art.

Every single thing she creates is pure magic — thoughtful, creative, and made with so much care. I’m endlessly grateful for this friendship and for the beauty she brings into the world (and onto cookies!).

Be sure to check out her page to see all the gorgeous things she creates. You can also find her Saturdays at the Summerside Farmer’s Market. .farmersmarket
