Did you know that we are born with as many sensors in our feet and we have in our hands?
Because our feet are in shoes most of our life, we lose much of our feet sensitivity.and the shoes muffle the information our feet would otherwise get from the ground such as texture, irregularities in the ground surface and quality (slippery or solid?) of ground Why is this important? The brain isn’t getting signals from our feet. This affects balance, pelvic floor and glute activation as we prepare for the impact of the next step. Our joints such as ankles, knees and hips respond to this information and adjust to disperse impact forces effectively.
I advise anyone who can to spend some part of the day in bare feet. Gradually the sensors in the foot can come back online to give us the feedback about the ground we are standing on. Over time the muscles in the feet will strengthen. For more information and exercises, I recommend naboso.com for all things barefoot related.
