Bodyweight Circuit (5 Rounds):

20 Air Squats
15 Pushups
20 Walking Lunges (10/leg)
30-second Plank
15 Jump Squats (or regular squats if space is tight)

OR

EMOM 20 (Every Minute On the Minute for 20 mins):

Minute 1 – 15 Pushups

Minute 2 – 20 Squats

Minute 3 – 15 Sit-ups

Minute 4 – 30-second Wall Sit

Repeat 5x

No equipment. No excuses.

I just heard a study that said most kids stop playing sports around age 13.
Everyone always blames burnout… but I think there’s more to it.

What if kids don’t quit because they’re physically tired — but because they start to feel like they’re failing?

Not making the top team.
Not getting big minutes.
Not being “the best.”

If all we ever reinforce is winning and rankings, kids start to believe their value is tied to their status — not their growth.

And to be clear — I’m not a fan of participation trophies.
I think it’s good for kids to win.
I think it’s good for kids to lose.

Both matter.

What really matters is teaching kids how to win with humility and how to lose with grace — and understanding that every loss is a learning experience, not a reason to quit.

Because keeping kids in sports — whether things are going great or not — is important for another reason we don’t talk about enough:

We aren’t just raising athletes.
We’re raising future employees, leaders, and bosses.

How a kid handles adversity in sports is often a preview of how they’ll handle challenges in the real world.
A coachable kid becomes a desirable, employable young adult.
A kid who learns to take feedback, show up, and keep working when things aren’t going their way develops real grit.
Leadership on the field or the ice often turns into leadership in the workplace later in life.

That stuff matters.

The reality is very few people will ever play professionally — and that was never supposed to be the point anyway.

Sports give kids something way bigger than trophies.

They support mental and emotional health.
They build confidence, resilience, and self-esteem.
They lower anxiety and depression.
They create belonging and connection.

They teach real-life skills:
• teamwork
• communication
• accountability
• commitment
• perseverance
• handling wins and losses

Things you can’t teach in a classroom.

And this isn’t just about sports.
Music, drama, arts, clubs — any structured group activity where kids show up, try, struggle, and grow — all count.

So the real questions are:
👉 If our kid doesn’t make the top team, do we still encourage them to stay involved?
👉 If they aren’t the star, do we still celebrate their effort?

Because if we only praise the very best, we quietly tell everyone else they don’t matter.

But they do.

Every teammate matters.
Every role matters.
Every kid who shows up and tries matters.

Sports aren’t about creating pros.
They’re about raising healthy, confident, resilient humans who know how to compete, take feedback, lead, and be part of something bigger than themselves.
