While the word “cleaning” is commonly used, many dental hygienists feel it down plays the importance of your time with us!

We’re not the custodians of your mouth, we're your partners in overall health and wellness 🙌

Our scope of practice varies across provinces, but at its core, dental hygiene is about community outreach, prevention, education, and supporting your overall health inside and outside of a clinical setting.

Yes, scaling (tartar removal) and polishing are memorable parts of your visit and yes, your teeth get “cleaned”, but we also assess/track your oral health, identify and modify your risk factors for disease and help you establish a daily routine that will hopefully keep you from spending more time in the dental chair than necessary!
