50 baby Cornish Giants have arrived on the homestead! It was a hot day to transport chicks today but everyone is doing well and enjoying water and food 😀

We added 50 feathered friends to the Wildwood Roots Homestead today 🐣 🐥 🐤 The Golden Girls were immensely excited!

These are Cornish Giants and will be raised to maturity and then harvested. They will remain in their nursery until they are big enough to move outdoors to be able to forage and enjoy fresh air.

These birds will be raised as naturally as possible and we are grateful for the food they will provide for us 🙌

It was a lovely morning to take a break from homesteading and create some tea blends for orders and gifts 🍵

By 10 a.m. I said to James that I wasn't cut out for farming anymore! What should go left goes right, what i want up ends up falling down and what should stay out goes in 😭 😜 Goodness.

We decided to put the ole a joy shared is a joy doubled and a sorrow shared is a sorrow divided to the test...we tag teamed it 😉
Much better.

At the end of day i looked back on pictures from the morning and was reminded how the so called imperfect moments make the most memorable of days.

Lots got done today. Lots went wrong. Lots worked out. Lots of laughter. Lots of sweating.
And oh me oh my lots of mosquitoes tonight!..and a whipporwill 🐦‍⬛ 🌙

Noone ever said fencing together with 3 goats would be easy 😆 🤣 😂 🐐 🐐 🐐...but it sure was fun!

Over half of our homestead sits in a large grove of beautiful eastern white cedar trees. Throughout the year The Woodsman harvests a handful of them. He studies the age, growth and health of the trees by observing changes and testing the bark.
As the tree reaches the final stages, but still as health, they are harvested, dried and milled to be used for chainsaw carving, soap dishes, dimensional lumber, beams and firewood.
The tree is fully appreciated and utilized for all it has to offer ❤️
{We have owned this land for almost 10 years but only set up a permanent homestead and moved here a couple wks back 🏡}

Yesterday The Woodsman had the sawmill running and was creating beams from a beautiful cedar that was grown on our land🌲
