FEEL THE BURN🔥

Who knew wall sits could be such a tough position to hold; but this is why we as Physios LOVE incorporating it into our sessions!

Though it may seem like an easy position, our Physios find ways to challenge each kiddo by creating variations such as:cues for them to learn "how low" to squat. Depending on the age of the child, we ask them to sit for a certain duration of time to really "burn" out their muscles. This exercise targets the lower extremity muscles, as well as the core, all while working on their endurance.

Though it may seem like an easy position, our Physios find ways to challenge each kiddo by creating variations such, as:

🟢 Standing on an unstable surface while doing it;
🟢 Extending one of their knees, to make it a single-leg wall sit; OR
🟢 Having a ball behind their back to further challenge their balance

Today, we celebrate nature.
Today, we celebrate connection.
Today, we celebrate and express gratitude to the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis nations who have had deep connections to this land we call Canada - on which we are fortunate to now work, live, and play - for time immemorial.

As we celebrate, we also reflect on the dark history of this country, and the responsibility we as settlers have in supporting reconciliation and resurgence. The complexity, connectedness, and diverse cultures of Indigenous Peoples are deeply connected to this land and have been for tens of thousands of years.

Kids Physio Group is proud to provide kids of all ages and abilities with the care (and FUN!) they need to reach their maximum physical potential from 🌊🏔️coast-to-coast⛰️🌊. Our clinics are located on the traditional, ancestral lands of the following nations and peoples:

xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh), sq̓əc̓iy̓aɁɬ təməxʷ (Katzie), sc̓əwaθenaɁɬ təməxʷ (Tsawwassen), S’ólh Téméxw (Stó:lō), Á,LEṈENEȻ ȽTE (W̱SÁNEĆ), Lekwungen/Songhees, Te’mexw Treaty Association, Kwantlen, Lekwungen, Songhees, Esquimalt , Cayuse, Umatilla, Walla Walla, Stz’uminus, Hul’qumi’num Treaty Group, Syilx (Okanagan), Haudenosaunee, Anishinabeg, Chippewa, Wendat, Mississaugas of the Credit, Mi’kma’ki, ᓀᐦᐃᔭᐤ ᐊᐢᑭᕀ Nêhiyaw-Askiy (Plains Cree), Ĩyãħé Nakón mąkóce (Stoney), Očhéthi Šakówiŋ, Niitsítpiis-stahkoii ᖹᐟᒧᐧᐨᑯᐧ ᓴᐦᖾᐟ (Blackfoot / Niitsítapi ᖹᐟᒧᐧᒣᑯ), Michif Piyii (Métis), Cree, Anishinabewaki ᐊᓂᔑᓈᐯᐗᑭ, Anishininiimowin (Oji-Cree), Kanienʼkehá꞉ka (Mohawk), Ho-de-no-sau-nee-ga (Haudenosaunee), Lekwungen/Songhees, Te’mexw Treaty AssK’ómoks, ɬaʔamɩn gɩǰɛ (Tla’amin), Homalco, We Wai Kai, We Wai K*m, Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ, Attiwonderonk, Wendake-Nionwentsïo, and Wabanaki

EQUIPMENT SPOTLIGHT: STATIONARY BIKES! 🚲

Stationary bikes are an excellent way for school-aged children and teens alike to warm up at the beginning of their physio session.

We love using the time on the bike as an opportunity to get an update from the child about their week and their progress, all while they get their heart rate up. For those rehabilitating an injury, a stationary bike provides the opportunity to gain confidence and get their leg moving, without putting their full weight through their injured limb.

For those learning to ride a bike without training wheels, it can be helpful to build specific strength and endurance.

At KPG, we have a huge range of baby toys to help even our littlest clients have fun at physio! 🤗

We use toys to encourage babies 👶🏽 to actively move their bodies and interact with their environment. For babies who are working on crawling, we will place toys:

🐝 To the side so babies can work on pivoting (turning) on the floor, which is an important precursor to crawling

🌸 Just out of reach! The baby will use random wiggles and pushes to try to reach the toy. Repeating these movements will eventually allow their movement pattern to evolve into a crawl

🎈Raising toys by placing them on a stool or sticking them on the sliding glass door (we love squigz!) This can encourage your little one to raise onto their hands and knees to reach higher and get more comfortable in a crawling position!

Babies love bright colours 🌈 faces 🙂 and noisy toys 🔔. Above all, they love anything NEW and exciting! Sometimes, a wooden spoon or measuring cup can be the most exciting thing. We also recommend rotating your toys so they feel novel when they are reintroduced.

What is a play and learn?

Our KPG clinics across the country offer play and learn as an opportunity for children to explore, play, and interact with their peers in a space designed just for them! Our physios lead fun and engaging developmentally-friendly games for children and are available to answer any physical health-related questions regarding your child while they play.

If you're interested in learning more about when these events happen, contact your local KPG clinic or follow them on social media to stay up to date 💚
