In July 2012, a team of doctors/scientists from the U.S. worked together to test a new drug to fight cancer. The test animals were mice implanted with human cancer & when the cancer reached a certain stage were treated with the new drug. The first trials, the drug Minnelide was administered to the animals. Minnelide is a semi-synthetic derivative of the original drug Triptolide which is from the herb, Tripterygium wilfordii root. Once in the body, minnelide releases Triptolide so triptolide is still the active drug. In this first trials, minnelide caused all the mice to be cancer free in 40 days of daily treatment.
With this method , the scientists found no sign of any cancer cells in the test animals which is a first because in the past no treatment or drug had ever totally eliminated cancer cells and it surprised the scientists. For a long time science was searching for a silver bullet meaning one drug that could kill cancer until there was none left. Cancer is known even in ancient times and is mentioned by the Romans and the Chinese in medical literature.
For the first time it actually happened, the scientist found the silver bullet for cancer and it only took 40 days of treatment.
Due to the results of the first trial, a 2nd experiment was conducted to make sure there were no mistakes & ended on October 2012, the outcome proved similar results.
In this 2nd experiment, Triptolide and minnelide were compared with the chemo drug,
Gemcitarabine which is the leading drug for pancreatic cancers whether 1st stage or late stage cancers. Pancreatic cancers are hard to cure - the true tests of a drug will prove itself on cancers that are hard to heal or considered incurable, if it works on more resistant cancers, it will work on other types of cancers.
The results of this 2nd trial, after 40 days of treatment, the mice's cancer cells were totally gone & no recurrence. The test also proved that triptolide and minnelide were superior compared to the leading chemo gemcitarabine for pancreatic cancer.
The research was a new discovery and method for treating cancers. The top scientist in this team was Dr. Ashok Saluja & he had this discovery revealed to Bloomberg, other news agencies also relayed this news. The following year 2013, more info about Triptolide and Minnelide made news.
But there are some problems with this treatment.
1. Triptolide was administered at a dose just below the toxic dose, the problem is the margin of safety.
2. This treatment method of a dose given daily for 40 days may not be acceptable to some patients such as older people, delicate cases and those who are sensitive to the drug.
However, a 2nd Research Discovery opened new possibilities.
The work by Dr. Glenn Rosen of Stanford Hospital, CA and his Team combined a chemo drug and Triptolide and/or Minnelide with high improvement due to Synergy.
Two important observations:
1. With Synergy - Triptolide and/or Minnelide- becomes more effective and works at a fraction of their recommended dose - this solves the problem with the first discovery and treatment methods.
2. With Synergy - The chemo drug improves and works effectively at a fraction of its dose taken alone - This solves the problem of chemotherapy toxicity. Chemo Toxicity can strike organs & tissues but that will not be an issue. In fact, baldness which is one of the toxic symptoms is eliminated.
The Synergy Killing effect is a Giant Leap in medicine because many cancers are considered impossible to treat . The Stanford Researchers studied Thunder God vine and its active ingredient Triptolide and Minnelide. (Using either drug, the results are the same triptolide and/or Minnelide makes chemo drugs more effective against cancers.
Dr. Rosen and the company Pharmagenesis applied for and received a Patent for Triptolide & chemo drugs together as treatment. Pharmagenesis started tests using the water soluble Minnelide.
