SAS was proud to be part of the Everybody Belongs Conference!

🌟 Our workshop, “How to Host an All Candidates Event,” was a great success. A key highlight of the session was an engaging interview led by SAS Co-Chair Jeevan Basra with MLA Trevor Halford. Trevor shared thoughtful insights on SAS’s Candidates mixers and emphasized the importance of why Self Advocate groups should be hosting these events within their communities.

Today, we had the honour of hosting a group of BC MLAs, led by MLA Trevor Halford (South Surrey – White Rock). This visit was a powerful opportunity to showcase how inclusive housing and leadership by people with lived experience are transforming communities.

Stacey Kohler, from UNITI’s Community Development Committee, attended the White Rock Rotary Club’s Installation Dinner, which she also holds a membership with.

Stacey witnessed the installation of the new board, joined in on the fun on the dance floor, and supported the host with announcing prize-draw winners. Stacey shared, “I had a fun night learning how to dance rhumba and seeing all the members from White Rock Rotary Club get together for a celebration.”

UNITI was a hole sponsor for the The Surrey Fire Fighters Charity Golf Tournament on June 17th 2025. Huge thanks to Priya Ram from our Community Development Services for volunteering and representing UNITI.

Together with SOURCES, we gave a big thanks to the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society for all the amazing support they’ve given our community, including their $100,000 pledge to UNITI’s campaign for Harmony.

Recently, UNITI welcomed a distinguished delegation from South Korea, composed of professionals from various service organizations, for a comprehensive learning experience focused on inclusive leadership, advocacy, and housing innovation. CEO Doug Tennant shared,
“We all benefit when we learn how things are done around the world, and these are connections that will be helpful when the Self Advocates of Semiahmoo begin to travel to share their stories.” We extend our heartfelt thanks to our Korean guests for coming and for sharing in our vision of inclusion.

Jeevan Basra and Michaela Robinson have finished their term as SAS Co-Chairs, and it’s time to pass the torch. They’ve led with dedication and passion, and we’re truly grateful for all their hard work.
