THE OLD-FASHIONED HOBBY COULD CUT YOUR RISK OF DEVELOPING DEMENTIA

Penmanship and handwritten letters are a casualty of the increasingly digital world, but reviving the dying art form and method of communication could reduce a person's risk of developing dementia, an Australian study has found.

Adult literacy skills such as writing letters, journaling or taking educational classes were found to cut the chance of getting dementia in adults over age of 70 by 11 per cent.

Active mental activities (chess,cards or puzzles) reduce the risk by just nine per cent.

Hobbies such as crafts, woodwork and painting lowered dementia risk by seven per cent, data show. as do passive mental activities like reading newspapers, or watching TV.

But interactions with other people had no benefit, the study found,
with social activities and outings not reducing dementia at all.

Overall study found that people who are mentally active engage in greater cognitive stimulation and the engagement, critical thinking, logical reasoning and social interaction may increase resilience in the brain against disease my making brain work harder.

MUSCLE AND MOTOR MEMORY EXISTENCE
Confirmed! I am a living proof of muscle and motor memory existence. There is still a debate if muscle memory exists at all. When a movement is repeated over time, the brain creates a long-term muscle memory for that task, eventually allowing it to be performed with little to no conscious effort. I proved it does. And did it absolutely without purpose. Thanks to my amazing teacher of physical education back to high school, I learned very specific exercise on gymnastics bars. I did not perform it for many many years. Being in Europe, I spotted gymnastics bars on the streets ( obviously non existent in North America for liability issue). I tried this exercise and it worked. This is another proof that any influence on your body, good or bad, actually carries forward for the rest of your life

LEAFY GREENS SLOW COGNITIVE DECLINE

Just a serving of leafy greens per day, over time, takes away years of aging effects in the brain. In the Rush University Medical Center research, 960 volunteers ages 58-99 participated for over four years. They ate two servings of leafy greens per day. Regular evaluations showed an evident slowing of cognitive decline in many study participants. Those who the most greens, and did so regularly, showed cognitive results equal to people 11 years younger. Leafy greens are kale, collards, spinach, lettuce and others. Their anti aging effect probably related to folate, lutein, beta-carotene, and vitamin K1, which are plentiful in leafy greens. So, just add those greens to your daily shake, or in a delicious summer salad to reap benefits of it.
