Good Morning, Dianne,
I wanted to give you an honest review of the Snore Owl MAD (Mandibular Advancement Device) that I have been using for the past 7 weeks to stop snoring.
Let me start by saying that I have been searching for something to reduce/eliminate my snoring for the past several years. I started out using the Z-Quiet mouthpiece, the first of several devices I tried that is supposed to keep the lower jaw positioned forward (which keeps the airway open and stops the snoring). While the “living hinge” of the Z-Quiet was definitely comfortable, I could not keep the device secure in my mouth. When I fall asleep, my lower jaw relaxes and drops down and back. Since the Z-Quiet does not have the capability of being form fitted, my jaw would slip out of it and fall back to it’s relaxed position (and I would again be snoring). The next device I tried was the SnoreRx mouthpiece. It also positions the lower jaw forward but can be form fitted by heating the device in hot water and fitting it to your teeth/jaw. In addition, the device has small adjustments to gradually advance the lower part forward until it is effective at keeping the airway open. While these are great features, I was never able to fit it well enough so my lower jaw would not slip out of the device and fall back into the “snoring position”, even though I reformed it 4 separate times. The next device I tried was the Zyppah mouthpiece. It also can be heated and formed, however it had less material to mold around my teeth/jaw than the SnoreRx so I had even more difficulty keeping my lower jaw from slipping out of it. I then tried the SleepTight mouthpiece. It uses the sample principle as the other two, but seemed to have more material to form around the teeth/jaw. When I first started using it, my jaw seemed to stay in place throughout the night, however I woke up with my jaw being sore right under my ears. The pain would go away after a few hours so I was willing to deal with it since it stopped my snoring. After approximately two weeks of use, the fit loosened up enough to where my lower jaw would again slip out during the night and my snoring returned. During this time, I also tried the Good Morning Snore Solution. This is a much different anti-snoring device that uses a suction bulb on the mouthpiece to hold the tongue forward instead of trying to hold the lower jaw forward. The mouthpiece does not have to be form fitted. Though I tried for over 2 weeks, I never could get comfortable with it nor keep my tongue attached throughout the night. Consequently, it was sent back for a refund. That leads me to the Snore Owl. It also positions the lower jaw forward (like the first 4 I tried) and uses hot water to form it to the teeth/jaw. However, I have had much different results using it. Because of the design and materials, I have not had any problems with my upper or lower jaw slipping out, even after 7 weeks of use. In addition, the design uses a pin and slot to hold the top and bottom pieces together instead of the device being one solid piece. Not only is this design easier to clean, it allows the jaw to move side ways slightly which makes it very comfortable. It has two slots for adjustment of the lower jaw. I have yet to experience any soreness in my jaws in the morning and I am not snoring. Bottom line, this is by far the most comfortable and effective device I have found. My wife and I both thank you.
One last thing I would like to mention regarding Snore Owl. The customer service people have been a pleasure to work with. They are very professional, helpful, and friendly.
