Thursday's Toolbox Talk

Residential construction workers are often exposed to on-the-job
noise that can permanently damage hearing.
It is important to wear hearing protection when exposed to
noise. Sources of noise include air nailers, chop saws, chainsaws,
circular saws, routers, screw guns, drills, and power planers.
The employer is responsible for providing protection. Earmuffs
or earplugs are acceptable.

Tuesday's Safety Tips

The key to staying safe is to prepare and to have an emergency plan in place.
Install smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors on every level of your home. Test the alarms every month and replace the batteries twice a year, at daylight savings time (March and November).
If you are a tenant, test your evacuation plan with your landlord and neighbours.
If you live in a highrise, know how to evacuate the building. Use stairs instead of the elevator.
Make sure everyone knows where the fire extinguishers are kept.
Prevent Fires:
Clean chimneys annually.
Keep flammable items at least one meter from heat sources, such as space heaters, fireplaces and the stove.
Never smoke in bed.
Never leave candles unattended.
Stay in the kitchen when using the stove top. If you have to leave the room, turn off the stove.

Tuesday's Safety Tip

Here are a few pointers to help keep your Social Media time safe:
- Use a strong password. The longer it is, the more secure it will be.
- Use a different password for each of your social media accounts.
- Set up your security answers. This option is available for most social media sites.
- If you have social media apps on your phone, be sure to password protect your device.
- Be selective with friend requests. If you don’t know the person, don’t accept their request. It could be a fake account.
- Click links with caution. Social media accounts are regularly hacked. Look out for language or content that does not sound like something your friend would post.
- Be careful about what you share. Don’t reveal sensitive personal information ex: home address, financial information, phone number. The more you post the easier it is to have your identity stolen.
- Become familiar with the privacy policies of the social media channels you use and customize your privacy settings to control who sees what.
- Protect your computer by installing antivirus software to safeguard. Also ensure that your browser, operating system, and software are kept up to date.
- Remember to log off when you’re done.

Safety Saturday

A heart attack occurs when the flow of blood to the heart is severely reduced or blocked. The blockage is usually due to a buildup of fat, cholesterol and other substances in the heart (coronary) arteries. The fatty, cholesterol-containing deposits are called plaques. The process of plaque buildup is called atherosclerosis.
It's important to know the signs of a heart attack.
