Reminder: If you notice flashes and floaters in your vision make sure to schedule an eye exam immediately!

This patient had a sudden onset of flashes and floaters and was diagnosed with a superior macula on retinal tear and detachment (see attached Optomap Widefield Imaging Video). This eye emergency requires immediate surgical intervention to prevent permanent vision loss.

Fortunately we were able to schedule the patient for surgery within 2 hours at the Eye Center at Vancouver General Hospital.

Sometimes, retinal tears are asymptomatic so its important to remember to have a comprehensive eye examination regularly even if you don't notice any particular issue with your eyes.

⁣Our clinic is equipped with Optos California Widefield Imaging Technology.

This state of the art instrument allows for high resolution imaging of virtually the entire back portion of the eye in a rapid and pain free scan without the need for dilating drops.

This incredible technology allows for early detection and management of retinal diseases and disorders including retinal holes, tears, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, both benign and malignant growths, and more.

We are pleased to provide this vision saving and in some cases life saving technology as part of our routine eye examination.

Our team has put in place several protocols for patient safety:⁣⁣

👉We will need to reschedule you to a later date if you have any signs or symptoms of a cold or flu including: runny nose, coughing, sneezing, sore throat, or a fever.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
👉We will need to reschedule anyone who has been outside of BC in the past two weeks.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
👉Please bring a mask, it will be required to be worn throughout your visit. We can provide a mask if you don't have access to one.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
👉Limit to one guest per patient and only if absolutely necessary (For children and if a translator is required)⁣⁣
⁣⁣
👉Arrive 5 to 10 minutes early and call us from your car when you arrive. Our staff will provide further instructions over the phone.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
👉A hand sanitization station has been setup at the front entrance. Please clean your hands thoroughly upon entering the clinic.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
👉The seats in our waiting room have been numbered. Upon entering, a staff member will assign you seat number and direct you to a designated place.

As we prepare to get back routine eye care as BC enters phase two of COVID-19 recovery we have been making changes to the clinic to enhance patient safety.

We have added extra large shields to all of our slit lamps to help reduce the risk of transmission of pathogens while patient's have their eyes examined. These see-through barriers serve as an extra safety layer without any reduction in visibility.
