At Simply Counselling we are neuroscience based and human being centered. We empower the journey of healing with our offerings of Counselling Therapy, Yoga Therapy, and Trainings on Trauma and Holistic Wellness.

The Just Breathe: Yoga for Kiddos program is aimed for children K-7. It is a specialized program that focuses on emotional regulation through knowledge and practice. The program offers knowledge on how the brain and nervous system are connected, how this impacts our emotions, and how we can process and care for our emotions/thoughts.

We provide a safe space for conversations and learning. In this space, children learn about different mental health/emotional topics, develop awareness of their own processes, and learn tools to cope with their internal experiences. Our young participants will learn how to name and manage big emotions and will learn about how the brain responds to stress.

We teach basic grounding and yoga techniques designed to support kiddos in developing a loving and supportive relationship with themselves and their bodies.

Why Yoga? 🧘‍♀️🧘‍♂️
Anxiety, depression and stress are produced by a dysregulated nervous system and automatic thought patterns. Our ability to learn, socialize and make decisions requires a balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. With presence and compassion, we use knowledge, breath work, gentle movement and sound to match the challenges of the nervous system and shift the relationship towards greater regulation.

Rest and restoration are a part of our being. A necessity. A must. When we do not prioritize rest, our body and our mind will hit a wall.

"There isn't enough time in the day," they say. We say, you don't have to change what you do, you just have to change how you do it. Do what you do with more mindful attention and your body will automatically find more rest. How? If we are doing one task but our mind is running around everywhere else, by bringing our mind to the task we are completing right her and right now, both our mind and body get a rest from the running around the mind would have been doing. All that extra energy gets conserved.

Is it easy? NO. But nothing worth achieving is easy. Our present moment attention is a muscle that we can work on each moment of each day without taking time away to practice it. You can build that muscle by not changing a thing, other than noticing where you attention is and bringing to what your doing right now. It is amazing how this can begin to offer your nervous system relaxation where you thought it couldn't exist.

Wellness is a moment to moment journey. Our external environment and especially our connection with sunlight and darkness can directly impact our sense of wellness and life energy.

It is normal to feel more tired or less motivated. It is normal to want to curl up and feel warm. Find moments in your day where you can care for the parts of yourself that are feeling the impact of shorter daylight. If you don't feel you have the time do this, instead, notice the impact on those parts and let those parts of yourself know that you are aware of them but are unable to offer the care they deserve today. Try again tomorrow. Sometimes it can be as simple as a self-hug or asking for a hug, or one quiet moment with your favorite hot beverage.

Remember: ANYTHING IS SOMETHING!

Acceptance of what is, in the here and now, takes courage. Step into your reality with courage. Once accepted, take it by the wheel and move towards your desired direction.

Notice your thoughts and feelings. Know these for a reality of this moment only, ever-changing like the wind. Know this. Accept this reality. Step back from your thoughts and feelings and look at the bigger picture. Accept those thoughts and feelings as a reality of this moment in this zoomed out bigger picture. Analyze how these thoughts and feelings are serving you today (zoomed in perspective) or serve you in the bigger picture of life (zoomed out). Accept this as well, as again, a reality of this moment.

Continue to practice this zoomed in and zoomed out acceptance of each moment. As you do this, your thoughts and feelings will begin to shift and move towards serving the bigger picture of your life. Awareness and acceptance are the first steps of change and more importantly, alignment with one self.

Acceptance of 'what is' is very powerful. It pulls us into assertive observation of reality as it is. It invites consciousness to the table. It disinvites the struggle that exists between the desired reality and the actual reality.

Notice what happens inside when you think about accepting the writing on the wall, for simply that, a statement expressing this moment's reality. Notice what happens to your thoughts and sensations. Is there resistance? Is there relief? Come back to this space again and again and grow your muscle for acceptance and notice the peace within.
