March 2026 has been declared "Women's Health Research Month" in British Columbia, so it is a meaningful time to reflect on something many people still don’t realize.
Women’s health has historically been underfunded and under-researched — and the statistics reflect that gap.
Women experience higher rates of adverse drug reactions.
Many patients with medically unexplained symptoms are women.
And only a small percentage of research funding is dedicated specifically to women’s health.
Organizations like Women’s Health Collective Canada are working to change this by funding research, raising awareness, and advocating for improved women’s health outcomes across Canada.
Advancing women’s health requires collaboration between researchers, clinicians, organizations, and communities.
Supporting initiatives that invest in women’s health research is one way we can help move this work forward.

Awareness is one of the first steps toward meaningful change.
