We see a lot of ankle strains and sprains. By strengthening your ankle muscles and the adjoining ligaments, you can prevent injuries and improve stability and mobility.

The following exercises will help you regain movement and control of the ankle.

Ankle Inversion:
1. Sit on the floor and attach the resistance band to the inside of your foot
2. Attach the other end of the band to a heavy table leg so it’s perpendicular to your leg
3. Hold your leg straight out with your heel on the floor
4. Using only your ankle, rotate your foot inward as far as you can
5. Hold for 2-3 seconds and return your ankle to the starting position

Ankle Eversion:
1. Sit on the floor and attach a resistance band on the outside of your foot
2. Attach the other end of the band to a heavy table leg
3. Hold your leg straight out with your heel on the floor
4. Using only your ankle, rotate your ankle outwards as you can (stretching the band using only the foot)
5. Hold for 2-3 seconds and return to the starting position.

The calves are one of the most overused but overlooked muscles in the body. Tightness and discomfort in the calves are often the result of overuse.

When the calves are too tight, it can lead to injuries including shin splints, calf pulls, and stress fractures. That's why it's important to stretch!

1. Stand facing a wall and place one foot in front of the other
2. Place your hands on the wall at eye level
3. Extend forward until you feel a stretch in the calf of the back leg
4. Hold for 15 to 30 seconds
5. Repeat 2 to 4 times and then switch legs

Tight glutes, or gluteal muscles, can be caused by sitting for a long period of time, overuse or overexertion in athletic performance. It’s important to warm them up before you exercise and stretch after exercise, as tight glutes can lead to injuries.

So let’s stretch!
1. Lie on your back and bend your left knee towards your chest
2. Place your hands on your left knee and/or shin and gently pull your leg towards you to activate the stretch
3. Hold the stretch for about 30 seconds, keeping the upper body flat against the floor
4. Relax and switch to your right knee
5. Perform 3 sets of 30 seconds per leg

The Sternocleidomastoid (SCM) stretch is one of the most popular stretches provided by our clinicians. Why? Because many of our patients who work a sedentary job experience neck pain due to improper posture.

SCM pain can also have other causes, including overhead work, injuries such as whiplash or falls, sleeping on your stomach with your head turned to one side, and shallow chest breathing.

Stretching the SCM muscle can help relieve the pain. So let's stretch!
1. Sit up straight and point your chin towards your left shoulder while keeping your shoulders relaxed.
2. Hold for 30 seconds and then relax by looking up to the right side.
3. Switch sides.

Did you know that muscle tension in the quadriceps can lead to back and knee pain, overall tightness, and reduced mobility? Luckily a few minutes of stretching a day can save you from this discomfort.

There are a lot of quad stretches, but today we're going to demonstrate a simple yet effective quad stretch that you can perform anywhere, anytime.

1. Stand on one leg with your knees touching. Hold onto a chair or the wall for balance, if needed.
2. Grab your right foot with your right hand and carefully pul it towards your glutes. Make sure your knee is pointing to the ground. Do not pull the knee backwards or sideways.
3. Push your chest up and out and your hips forward. Focus on the stretch in your hips.
4. Hold for 30 seconds and then switch legs. Perform 3 sets per leg.
