Hello everyone!! I hope this day finds you well!!
I'm not quite sure what brought this on, but I thought now is as good a time as any to say thank you to all who have supported me, personally and professionally, throughout this past year.
2025 has been an interesting year. A year of changes, challenges, new volunteer responsibilities and the addition of in-person mental health services. Not to mention the recent flood..haha...
Gear's Indigenous Counselling & Consulting Services operated solely through virtual and phone services until January 2025, when I began travelling to Eskasoni to provide in-person counselling services. My experiences there lead me to believe that the people are truly the heart of the community.
2025 also demanded updating technical skills as I moved into my second year of managing and editing my webpage, billing responsibilities, and managing an online booking system. Let's just say that that continues to be a work in progress..
My areas of research and skill development this year continue to focus on integrating polyvagal and attachment theory into practice. This combination of therapies helps us understand our relationship patterns, identify our attachment style, and lay the foundation for secure, healthier connections.
It saddens me that grief and loss continue to be a large part of Indigenous communities and in my clinical work; however, strength and compassion are woven throughout community organizations to honour and pray for health and wellness in the I'nu way.
I am thankful and privileged to have been in this profession for 20 years, and as I move into 2026, I plan to continue to grow with the needs of my clients and my specialization.
I hope this message is a reminder that you are all important and that your Christmas is simply wonderful.
Nakkumek, Welal'in, Tnishkamiten, Thank you.
Brenda
