Krystle MacDonald is a Canadian Certified Pedorthist & Podologist

Canadian Certified Pedorthist are heath care professional who are trained and certified in the assessment, the design, manufacture, fit and modification of foot orthotics and footwear with the goal of alleviating painful or debilitating conditions of the foot and lower limb that if left untreated could result in limited mobility. P

edorthist are one of the few healthcare professionals trained in the assessment of lower limb anatomy and biomechanics. Common conditions treated by Pedorthists

• Metatarsalgia
• Plantar Fasciitis
• Numbness or Tingling in the toes
• Achilles Tendinitis
• Tibialis Posterior Tendinitis
• Arthritis
• Diabetes
• Bunions
• Callouses
• Knee Pain
• Hip Pain
• Low Back Pain
• Leg Length Difference

These conditions are treated and can be alleviated by the re-alignment of anatomical structures and the redistribution of external and internal forces in the foot through the use of orthotics. Orthotics can also help to accommodate foot deformities and improve balance. Pedorthic Services
Pedorthic Assessment: An assessment of the lower limb bony alignment, movement pattern, general function of the foot and the interaction of the foot with the rest of the body. The assessment includes history taking, bony palpation, range of motion testing, gait analysis, and footwear consultation. Gait Analysis: The observation of the lower extremity to determine deviations in alignment, movement pattern and symmetry. Custom Foot Orthotics: foot appliance placed within shoes which are manufactured from three dimensional images of the foot, made from raw materials. The custom orthoses accommodate for boney deformities, and/or modify the movement pattern of the foot and lower limb
Custom- Made Footwear – Footwear that is manufactured from a three dimensional image of the foot and lower leg, made from raw materials. The footwear maybe functional or accommodative
Footwear Modification: The adaptation of mass produced footwear to accommodate deformity and or improve function of the foot and lower limb. Off the Shelf Orthotics: Prefabricated commercial insoles that can be modified with the addition of posting, padding, or metatarsal support. It may also be further modified by the addition of specific top covers to address such conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, or callous build-up. Orthopaedic Shoes: Provide a stable base for orthotics. Appropriate footwear is an important treatment modality and an orthoses is rendered less effective by placing it within inferior footwear, Orthopaedic footwear key features include removable sock liners, adjustable closure, torsional stability and heel stability, deeper toe box, and variety of widths. Compression Stockings: Compression stockings can prevent and control swelling and improve venous circulation. Orthopaedic Bracing: Includes ankle and knee bracing for various ligament injuries and osteoarthritis. Podology Foot Care Treatments

PODOLOGY is an in-depth study of the anatomy and physiology of the foot, skin and nails as well as the care of the foot and involves comprehensive specialized training. Type of ambulation, disease process and the biomechanics of the patient will affect the condition of the feet. Proper Foot Care is essential to good health and well-being. The knowledge, skills and care requirements in this area are significant in assessing the condition of the lower leg, foot, skin and nails, preventing injury and infection and in promoting independence and a sense of well-being. There is a critical shortage of practitioners who can perform extensive foot care services on complex and challenging foot conditions; not just cutting a patient's toenails. I am registered with the Canadian Examining Board of Health Care Practitioners where it is recognized as a therapeutic foot care treatment. I observe strict sanitation rules in all my treatments
Treatments include:
• Callous Reduction
• Corn Removal
• Wart Treatment
• Nail Cutting & Nail Reduction
• Nail Fungus Treatment
• Athletes Foot Treatment
• Ingrown Nail Treatment
• Diabetic Foot Care

Being a Certified Pedorthist and Podologist, these certifications complement each other. I am able to remove a patient’s foot condition such as a corn or callous but also prevent them from coming back by recommending an orthotic or shoe to off load the area.
