Kim and Melissa started their journey as nurses. One day, they realized that there was a broader spectrum of needs beyond medical care. One evening, over a glass of wine, the idea for The Golden Girls was born, and the name stuck. Initially, they thought they would dabble in this endeavor, but as they embarked on this mission, they quickly recognized the profound demand for their services. The range of services they offer is nothing short of impressive, spanning from meal preparation, house cleaning, transportation, and even cat-sitting. The needs of their clients are as diverse as life itself, and The Golden Girls do everything in their power to provide support or point people in the right direction if necessary.
One of the remarkable aspects of The Golden Girls' work is how they fill the void of loneliness and vulnerability often experienced by seniors, particularly those with family members living far away. They go above and beyond, helping seniors decorate for Christmas, taking them shopping, or even doing the shopping for them. But that's not all. In a recent exciting development, The Golden Girls expanded their business journey by opening "The Glamour Girls Cosmetic Clinic," offering services like permanent makeup and fine line tattoos, with more exciting ventures on the horizon.
Their deep connection with the community of Glace Bay has been a driving force behind their success. Operating within the community has not only made a positive impact on their business but has also allowed them to build trust, forge local relationships, and create a strong, reputable, and customer-centric business that continues to thrive and grow. Their community is more than just a client base; it's a support network that has rallied around The Golden Girls, providing testimonials, sharing positive stories, and even participating in the training of new staff, while offering valuable feedback.
Kim and Melissa take immense pride in the path they've chosen. Starting this business was a leap into the unknown, filled with uncertainties and risks. Yet, their dedication to helping others has driven them forward. Today, The Golden Girls employs over 50 staff members.
The Golden Girls' story is one of heart, friendship, and unwavering dedication to serving those in need. It's a tangible proof of the power of community, compassion, and the profound difference a small group of caring individuals can make in the lives of seniors and their families. In Glace Bay, The Golden Girls are not just caregivers; they are family.
